Fantasia (DVD 2000)

I bought it for my grand-daughter, but was disappointed to find that the DVD supplied was almost certainly a pirate copy. I wish that E Bay would act in such cases.

Ah, if only I had visited this page before buying my counterfeit Fantasia DVD. I am shock, though I must admit also slightly relieved, to find that I am not the only person to have been suckered by these criminals. I am currently embarking on a dispute with the seller, though, judging by other reviews of this title, I don't expect much success. This is my first ever purchase through Ebay, and currently I can say that I have no desire to use the site again. What a shame that the anonymity that sites like this provide can be used to protect criminals.

I bought this DVD for my sister in law. She is crazy about Mickey mouse and has wanted this on dvd for ages and you can't buy it in the shops just now. This is not a copy but is an import - you can't tell the difference between the import or the real thing. Great quality. She loves it!!!

I bought this DVD for my grand-children and was assured it would play on my region 2 player. Unfortunately this was not the case but the seller was sympathetic and instantly returned my money.

Disney's classic released in 1941 with a sequel Fantasia 2000 released in, guess what, 2000! The original DVD release of both movies was in 2000 and subsequently withdrawn leaving the pirates free to flood the market with poor quality fake DVDs. If you're buying, make sure you purchase an authentic version, as displayed in my guide, that has the Disney hologram.

Review
Unlike most movies Fantasia has no story. This groundbreaking feature comprises eight segments of classical music played by the Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by the renowned Leopold Stokowski with Disney animators creative interpretations of the classical pieces. The result is some beautiful animation and an explosion of colour that is as vibrant today as it was since it's theatrical release in 1940. The most recognised segment is Mickey Mouse in Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice where an eager student tries his Master's sorcerer's hat and assumes his powers ....only to make a complete mess. The fit between animation and music is just perfect. Fantasia won an honorary Academy Award in 1942 for the following:

turned out to be a fake, felt ripped off, then found out that the sellers account had been removed so couldn't contact the bastard.

I loved this film as a child and am in the process of getting all films I had on video on DVD. This sounded even better on DVD and I have watched it several times since i got it. It's a classic and the re-mastered graphics lived up to my expectations. I also loved the extra 'behind-the-scenes' documentary.

I've always wanted to see Fantasia and when I bought it on ebay I thought I was buying a cd. Silly me. Anyway, depite the sound being a little wobbly it's a lovely video and the visual effects are wonderful.Walt Disney was a genius IMO.

A timeless peice of Disney history, bought as Xmas present for daughter who wore out the video. Beautiful animation to popular classical themes

i bought this dvd as an xmas present, i was hesitant about buying it because its in ntsc format rather than pal but i tried it out on my dvd player and it plays perfectly as the seller said it would. highly recomended!

Great to get this unavailable in the UK DVD and at a reasonable price too. I thought I would never be able to replace my well worn Fantasia video.

this film is a copy it has no hologram and the cover is a copyed cover and disc it does work but it shouldnt have been sold... the seller said it wasnt a copy you can clearly see that it is... be carefull buying dvds on ebay as they may be copyes.....

Pristine original copy of classic DVD. Particularly interesting is the inclusion of the previously lost material of Claire de Lune. The DVD is timeless

had a bit of trouble playing it on my dvd player but thats because of the regions. but it works fine on the other one.

bought for my girlfriend, a clasic film in all ways. she wanted it to remind her of her childhood and its now something we can show to any children we have.

Excellent viewing. Still as enthralling now as when I first saw it 40 years ago. The music combined with the imagery still evoke emotions I can remember feeling when I first saw the film.The Magicians apprentice scene still scares me somewhat even though I know it all works out ok for Mickey in the end.

Excellent, and to me appeared to be genuine, which previously was not the case from another,(a different title and format, I hasten to add). This Seller was helpful and true to his / her word. The item arrived on time. I would return to this Seller, if the need arose.

Fantasia is an unusual film - very few films have been made of the same genre and at the time it was very revolutionary, in a word. Even today, it stands out as a peculiar title for a film, but what makes this film special is that it makes this odd genre work.

Combining the classic characters from Walt Disney, and classic compositions from J S Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven, this film gives a visual interpretation of these classical songs, by using the famous characters such as Mickey Mouse.

Admittedly, it is a very long film, and for those who are not a big fan of classical music, this film may not be very pleasing. However, if you love classical music, then this film will surely give you a different viewpoint on how certain people can interpret music.

As a guideline, I wouldn't say that if you put this film in front of a toddler, they will sit there attentively until you return. Although you would be surprised. This film is however, recommended for all age groups, although personally, the older generation may appreciate this a lot more. Nevertheless, a thoroughly enjoyable film. A must-see of an unknown genre

This film was not popular when first released but over the years, as classical music became more accessible to everyone AND pieces became familiar via background music in adverts etc, so the popularity of Fantasia grew. The animation is exqusite and the imagination of the animators was ahead of its time - hippos in tutus???? AND Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerors Apprentice has to be one of the most memorable pieces of animation ever. I am a big fan of early Disney and wholeheartedly recommend this DVD of Fantasia to everyone - (even those who think they din't like classical music!)

I first recall seeing this marvellous work as a boy and was left disappointed - having viewed it as a man I only now even begin to appreciate the wonder of what was surely Disneys 'Magnus Opus.' The incluson of Debussy's Claire de Lune is a masterstroke; this segment is worth the purchase price alone and represents a triumph of lasting importance. It is as if the music was written around the action rather than vice-versa. What a delight. Truly a joy to see and hear.
