Album Notes
The Fall has always been a band that's built its style around sonic surprises that are rooted in a bludgeoning repetitious pulse, and the series LIVE FROM THE VAULTS, which issues Fall concerts recorded in the late 1970s and early '80s, gives listeners a chance to re-experience the group at perhaps its edgiest most confrontational. The Fall's trademark sense of propulsive groove is evident on this 1979 Los Angeles date, but the cacophony of guitars and drums collides to create a searing, in-your-face white noise. Over it all singer Mark E. Smith delivers his distinctive sung-spoken mad-genius rants, creating an equally gripping counterpoint to the caterwaul around him.
