For a start an excellent bargain over shop price, and it appears to be new, when advertised on E Bay as "slightly used".
It can be used for just point and shoot, but it has all the bells and whistles of an advanced camera. It scared me at first but the instruction book is excellent. I would suggest this is not the best for one's first digital camera although that is what it is to me! It has all the features of a good SLR camera, which was what I have moved from, lot's of mode choices, and lovely to handle. I love the ability to delete unsatisfactory shots, and so cheap, no expensive film! Once invested one needs little extra to buy, relief! Memory cards, memory reader, batteries, (seems to use them quickly?), chargers, so cheap on EBay, and all the gubbins for transfering to computer supplied.
I am very happy though still a bit bemused by the options given for high tech features.

  Outstanding features and superb photos

This camera has an enormous number of outstanding features.

I bought it because it can do so much other cameras can do, but few can do as a package.

Firstly startup is 0.8sec. Most other cameras take up to 5 seconds.
Shutter delay is 1/100th sec. Most other cameras have a 1/2 second delay.
Minimum zoom is 28mm. Most cameras only go down to 35mm.

Photo quality is impressive and with 9 megapixels you can produce prints up to A3 size.

The manual zoom means you don't have to spend ages zooming in and out via buttons. The manual zoom is precise and fast.

The LCD can be hinged down 45 degrees - Great for shooting over crowds - and it can be hinged upwards 45 and 90 degrees - great for low level shots.

The centre part of the LCD screen can be enlarged to help focusing in low level lighting.

All the controls are reflected in the viewfinder so when you make an adjustment, you don't need to lower the camera to see what are adjusting.

The centre portion of the viewfinder can be enlarged to help with manual focus.

You can bracket exposures, manually override the focus to fine tune your photo, choose from 3 different metering modes, choose programmed, shutter priority, aperture priority, or full manual exposure control.

One useful feature that is rare in today's cameras is the ability to fit a standard cable release - especially useful for anyone taking low light photos with the camera on a tripod.

The movie mode can give two sizes: 640x480px or 320x240px.

No drivers for 64 bit computers

A serious point to remember for all owners of computers with 64 bit Intel or AMD processors that Fujifilm have not produced any drivers for these processors and are not planning to do so. So when you plug in your camera with the USB cable it wont work.
The only way to get your pics on your hard drive is with a separate card reader.

A great transition camera from compact to SLR

The lense is fantastically versitile, the 9 megapixels allow pictures to be blown up to A3 comfortably, it is excellent value, the RAW capabilities are as good as any SLR.

I have loved and valued this fantastic camera. (Practical Photographer voted it the best compact camera of 2006, and its predecessor was voted best compact the year previous)

  S9500 - bargain bridge camera
Review created: 31/12/08
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The S9500 is - despite its achilles heel of an easy-to-break dial wheel shaft - a real bargain at the current used price of around £150-£170.

The raw feature does actually produce noticeably better images than jpegs, despite what you might read on some forums - it's just a matter of using a good raw decoder program. I'm a Photography Honours graduate, so I hopefully know a little about photography and imaging. Using 4xAA batteries is a MASSIVE advantage over expensive Li-Ion packs. A fixed lens installed in the factory clean room almost guarantees no dust on the CCD (unlike DSLRs which cause frequent irritation with dust artifacts in the picture area). Zooming with a manual ring on the lens is also excellent - with only a modest physical rotation required to cover the whole zoom range.

The picture quality isn't stunning, but it's generally very good. The manual functions work well, although people do grumble a little about the manual focus. I say to them... read the instruction manual! With manual focusing, use the "focus once" button feature on the AF selector wheel - and then adjust it if you don't like it.

This isn't a fast camera to use, but it gets the job done at a good steady pace. Once you get comfortable with it, you'll like it. If you want to go out and buy something 5 times more expensive, go ahead - but it won't be 5 times better than the S9500.

A really good all round camera.
Review created: 07/08/07

I bought my S9500 18 months ago before a holiday to NZ on the basis of good reviews and it was just right, basically I used it as a point and shoot, not fully understanding what all the features did. I then started taking low light shots of Blues and Soul artists performing for a promoter friend; this is preferable to using flash which interferes with the mood of the performance.I started using the manual set up to good effect, contolling the ISO setting, aperture and speed to get the right image, and most impressive by using manual focus the shutter is instant, many of the shots have now been turned into publicity posters and covers for CD's, a professional photographer friend is very complimentary. A bit bulky to put in a pocket, so I treated my camera to a cheap camera bag from Tesco, I think it was about £10 and has pockets for spare batteries and memory cards.
Oh yes and another feature it has 2 memory card slots one for an XD and the other a compact flash, with both in the XD is the default, if that fills you can pop it out but leave it safely in the slot and the compact flash card comes into play.

FujiFilm FinePix S9500 Keep your eyes sharp
Review created: 29/02/08(updated 29/02/08)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This camera is truly excellent I purchased one from ebay it came with rechargeable batteries and an 8Gb compact flash memory card as well as a case.

The camera is of excellent quality and it has a wide range of functions including manual and auto focus as well as a manually controlled zoom. There is one thing to look out for which is the command wheel, these are known to break and are expensive to have repaired via Fuji, I repaired mine using an online photo guide total cost £0.00, but not for the nervous type.

Image quality is amazing using standard/ auto and manual mode and the camera has the added bonus of saving images as RAW files i.e. uncompressed. I must point out however that the low light quality is not very good, expect poor results in low light no flash conditions.

It is also a shame Fuji did not include a mains adapter nor rechargeable batteries but all in all this helps keep costs down, none the less I would pay the little extra for those little things you like to have including a case!
Time between shots is remarkable around 0.3 seconds from focus to shoot only out performed by the Sony H series

However for a SLR type camera with loads of features (including an angle adjustable LCD screen) for such a modest price you will be hard pushed to find a camera at a similar price and with the same quality other then perhaps the Cannon powershot models.

All in all 4/5 loosing the 1 point for the little niggles I mentioned above! Well worth the buy.

This is an excellent camera with all the features of a SLR. Terrific photo quality enlarges up to A3 comfortably. The only problem with this camera is the Command Dial which seems to have a problem (read up on reviews on Google) Mine has now gone and I have returned it to Fuji for repair. I wait with baited breath to see how long it takes for the repair to be rectified.
But a good camera worth the money with great features.

This camera is excellent. We were looking for an SLR for my sister in law's wedding but a friend suggested this one. It has most of the benefits of an SLR but without the hassel of having to change lenses. It's gread for red eye elimination and takes a fantastic picture from the most earliest of novices. My daughter loves using it and she's only 7. Very easy to use and a must for any one who's interested in cameras but doesn't want to shell out £1000s.

I'd recommend this to everyone and anyone!!

The camera was something I was loking for and as I have already got a fuji camera it looked good after getting it I found it to be better in condition than the seller had said it was. The only thing I dont like about it is I cant charge the batteries up while in the camera but eBay came good so I got a set of rechargable batteries and charger here the reason I got it on eBay was because not only was it cheeper but because I could ask questions about it and know the person who was answering me would know or would tell me what they did the whole thing was wonderful and yes I will be using eBay again next time for well anything I might need

This is my fourth Fuji with Finepix and easily the best. There is virtually no shutter lag. The super macro is superb and excellent for flower studies. The camera has so much potential that even after two years I still have not mastered everything. That is because I have been satisfied with what I have learnt. As I broke my wrist I found the camera too heavy to operate and foolishly prchaed the much smaller S8000fd. It is no substitute and now that I am back using my 9500 it is like greeting an old friend! I lent it to a friend when I could not use it and he begged me to part with it - no way! The quality of the pictures is remarkable.

This camera is a superb camera for the enthusiastic amateur. All the fun of an SLR but without the hastle of carrying lots of lenses. I cannot speak highly enough of this camera. I have had one for 2 years, and recently bought a 2nd for my daughter. Fantastic value for money, I would recommend it to anyone who fances a go of a real camera but without the hastle or expense of an SLR.

I bought this camera for the zoom and also for shutter speed. I am well pleased with it. However, I've still a lot to learn - especially about night shots. I used the night-time setting on holiday but had a halo effect on some photos so need to get that sorted. Inside photos are great but my Canon PowerShot A80 took great pictures outside and this camera doesn't do any better but maybe I just need to learn more about it. I'm still happy I bought it and look forward to being able to work it better.

It is really a good bridge SLR digital camera. I wanted a digital camera with a supermacro feature and this S9500 doesn't disappoint. You retain the control of the camera with a manual zoom, without having to rely on auto-zoom which can, on numerous occasions, slow you down taking quick-taken shots. Learning the art of taking photos with different settings, eg. aperture and shutter speed, would take time to master but it is worth doing so. Get yourself decent photography magazines for ideas and techniques and you would enjoy using the camera.

  Fuji Finepix S9500 Digital Camera
Review created: 23/11/09
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Fuji FinePix S9500 camera is a very advanced bridge camera, it has a DSLR feel to it. It is a big step up from the Fuji FinePix S7000 and you can feel the upgrade in quality almost immediately.

Like the Fuji S6500fd this had a Super CCD image sensor, but the S9500 has 9.0 million effective pixels and is paired with a Real Photo Processor, this combination produces extra detail, colour and range.

When reviewing a string of test shots including portraits, scenery and natural world (mainly wildlife) the textures are evident and exposure vibrant as ever when printed on photo paper (not even set to the highest quality).

Also known as the S9000 in North and South America, with its notable sensitivity range it can square up to the majority of the DSLR’s still being used in professional fields today. I really like the adjustable LCD, it allows you to take really inventive photographs from a range of positions and is something DSLR’s don’t have.

The lens has full manual control used by twisting the barrel, which I prefer to the zoom buttons on the average camera. The hot shoe is a big plus to the built in flash and the S9500 has the option to add filters and additional “add-on” lenses that makes your options never-ending.

The lens (the 28-300mm Fujinon) which is a good all rounder, offers the excellent Super Macro mode for close detailed photography, you can shoot from up to 1cm with wide angle, you would not find many cameras that can get much closer than that unless you ventured into a very expensive DSLR and specialist lens.

With a speedy start up, array of exposure modes, continuous shooting, movie recording and playback, high quality speaker, Compact flash I/II and XD compatible, it is a package which is unrivalled by any other manufacturer.

This camera is impressive and Fuji have a winner with the S9500.

Super Power Photography 2009
