Watch out for import tax

I decided to buy the S800fd camera from ebay for one very good reason, it was much cheaper than everywhere else. The buy it now price of £150 when in the shops is £250.
Bargain right, I bought the item knowing I'd have to pay £40 postage and it was being posted from Hong Kong. Only 2 days had passed and it was delivered. Very quick, this was the fastest I've ever had anything delivered when its come all the way from Hong Kong. The camera is a great piece of kit and I'm very pleased with it. You can take shots in manual and get some great effects or just leave it in auto, let the camera do the work and still take some brilliant pictures. It also came with other freebe's like a 4gb memory card, camera case, card reader some other items as well. Well worth it.
The shine wore off a bit though when I received an invoice from FEDEX who stated that in order to speed up delivery, they had paid the import duty and that now I had to pay them £29.10.
So what was the £40 postage for?
I also needed to send off to Fuji to get a manual, because mine came in chinese, which i am not particulaly fluent. This cost £9.
So altogether at £230 I still came out smiling but if i'd not been stung for import tax i'd be better off.
It hasn't put me off buying from Hong Kong, as I've bought goods from there since and everything has been fine.
