I'm really pleased with my Finepix S5700 camera. The camera is easy to use and the manual is quite clear. The power consumption seems to be quite low and therefore battery life is good. The camera is fairly light so it is easy to keep steady and does not hang heavily around the neck.
Perhaps most the impressive features are the range of modes that can be used to suit a wide range of requirements e.g. I've taken some impressive shots of fireworks and on the other end of the scale beautiful close-ups of flowers. The large screen certainly makes a great difference when deciding upon the composition of a picture.

  FUJI S5700 DIGITAL CAMERA

The Fuji S5700 offers the near total package in one compact device and also has the added bonus of easy connectivity- compatable with vista! brilliant piece of kit for the price. On the down side the camera can be very complicated, especially if you want to utilise all the features. However with a bit of practice this should be easily overcome. It has a nice large 2.5" lcd, a digital viewfinder for traditional style use, you can use it in manual modes for aperture shutter speed etc, it dosn't suffer from shuter lag. It features the half depressed shutter button for focus, and takes truly superb photos. It has a stabilisation mode for photos taken on the 10x optical zoom, and is a briliant feature. The total zoom is 48x, 10x optical and4.8x dgial. It has stabilised video, which can be zoomed whilst recording. It accepts SD and XD memory cards up to 2 gb. I am very impressed with this camera, and havn't even scratched the surface of the features available. over-all if you are thinking about taking up photography as a hobby i would recommend this camera to hone your skills. 9.5/10.

  A great little camera

I have a good digital camera already but just wanted something that would zoom in on a subject a bit better, so having researched this one plus the S5800, I made the decision to go for the S5700, not really needing the extra megapixels. I find this camera excellent, it's easy to hold, not bulky or heavy and really simple to use. I'm still learning about it but I have found the whole expereince so far, very enjoyable. I just want some decent weather now to get out and really put it through its paces. The zoom is quite mind blowing, so much better than your ordinary digitals. This was a reasonably priced "in between" camera. I've owned SLR's before but this is brilliant, and there's no need to carry alternative lenses around with you. I have everything I need in this wonderful piece of kit. Roll on summer!!

  Fuji s5700 camera
Review created: 12/07/08

Being a avid amature photgraphy I've often thought about getting a better camera. This camera (the Fuji Finepix S5700) fitted the bill as I've already owned the S3000 and had great results. On first contact I found the camera to be smaller than I expected which isn't a bad thing. There are many options on this camera and theres plenty to play with. Because I have been using a Canon A430 point and click camera for such a long time now I've gotten used tot he fact it takes great(and sometimes fantastic) shots. The Fuji disappointed me at first because there are so many settings. I could't seem to get the quality shots I was getting from the Canon which is 4 mp as opposed to the Fuji's 7.1mp. After messing with the settings I'm beginning to understand how it works and how i can get what I want.

One thing I dont like about the Camera is the red eye correction setting. I took many pictures using this setting yet there still seems to be a lot of red eye on the images. I will have to correct this with a dedicated software package at a later date; something I really dont have time for. I do however, like the zoom option. Although the image on the viewfinder (the lcd screen) appears very blocky the closer you zoom the actual image taken comes out as you would expect and clear considering how far it does zoom.

Overall as with the rest of my cameras, I will learn about it and enjoy it. I do believe this is a good if not great camera.

Bought this to upgrade from a small Samsung 4 mp digital camera. Not had it that long, but the pictures you can take straight out of the box are fantastic.

Easy to set up and use - but with lots of manual functions which will take a while to learn (i'm still very much a beginner with this).

Took some portrait photos of my son, and the difference in quality between this and my old camera is remarkable.

So far VERY happy with it, and there is nothing i dont like about it.

S5700 - Good performance, good value, but not perfect
Review created: 04/09/07
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I bought this camera to replace an early Fhji compact which has performed excellently for several years - I wanted something with greater resolution.
The S5700 is a good performer, offering all the auto and manual functions that almost anyone could want.
It is also relatively easy to use, the functions being easy to identify, intuative, and easy to select. I particularly like the way functions are described in text on the LCD display as you are selecting, rather than showing a tiny symbol the meaning of which you can never seem to remember. Flash and macro settings are particular examples of this.
The LCD screen is large and quite bright so can be used in most conditions. There is also still the option of a traditional viewfinder - usefull in very bright light conditions.
However, although a superb performer this camera is not perfect - the problems are all about the physical layout of its components and probably result from too much emphasis being placed on reducing physical dimensions to a minimum during design.
Firstly the auto flash - this has been designed to pop up automatically when needed if the flash control is set to auto. I am at a loss to understand why this is not fixed in the ready position as the natural way to hold this camera (there being really no body to hold to the left side of the lens), is with the fingers of your left hand on top of the flash housing, thus preventing it from flipping up.
Secondly, although the zoom is very good, offering a widw range and being fast to adjust, the control for this, although on top of the camera, is located facing towards the front of the camera. This is not a very natural position to place your finger and the adjustment being quite rapid means that you will somtimes overshoot when adjusting.
Thirdly, the battery compartment is locked by a push button - why they didn't use a sliding lock is beyond me. It is possibly to accidently push the button and open the battery door as this is where your right thumb naturally rests when pointing the camera.
If this camera had been made just a little physically larger I have no doubt that these problems would not exist, but if you can live with it being just a little awkward to physically handle it is a nice piece of kit.
The latest FinePix software which comes with it is also a great improvement over early versions and does all the routine things that most users will want quickly and simply.

Why to Buy? Fuji FinePix S5700 Digital Camera

Hi,

I bought this camera in order to assist me in placing eyecatching and detailed listings on ebay. Sounds a bit dull I know, but my old camera wasn't up to the job when selling items that needed veryclose up photography. This camera is brilliant for the job, the Super macro function allows you to take brilliant photos from only 1.5 cm away! It is just a great all-round camera too with point and press ease if you want, or user controlled photography if you know what you are doing. All in all it cost me £190 and for the money I'm very pleased with it. I bought mine from Hong Kong via e-bay and was a little concerned when I hadn't had a response from the seller, but it arrived. Just remember you may have to pay import tax (£27 in this case) on top.

  Fuji FinePix S5700 Digital Camera.

Before I purchased this camera I researched it first as I wanted to upgrade my existing digital camera which was over four years old. Having decided on the Fuji S5700 I went onto e bay. There were four of these cameras but the one I chose was from a private seller with a full description including photos of the camera it's box and accessories and why it was for sale. The description was honest and I felt the seller was genuine so I placed a bid. With the other three cameras offered for sale before the one I puchased it reached what I considered a bargain price. The seller communicated with me and the camera duly arrived a few days later in it's original box with all the accessories intack. Having now used the camera and it's video over Christmas I consider it to be one of the best on the market even at it's full price. It's simple to use, the instruction book is easy to follow, it's zoom lens is excellent and I had no problem blowing up the photos via the computer to A4 without loss of clarity. The half hour vidio I shot on a 2gb card means for most occasions I will not need my Handycam every time I go out. It's not a pocket digital camera but if you want serious photos and a half hour video the Fuji S5700 is the camera to buy especially at the price I paid for it.

  replacement Camera

3 years ago I aquired my first Fuji Camera, the S5500. What a superb piece of kit, I recently decided to upgrade because I had damaged the usb port on the camera and it would require twiddling to get it to work. Because this camera was so good I decided to find a simular type spec cam perhaps a later version, so I searched Ebay and found the s5700 and the s5800 Fuji finpix. After reading their description, I decided thier was not much between them and either model would do. I found several sellers in the UK and Internationally selling these items. By far the best buy was from Hong Kong, this seller offered a 3yr warranty and free 1gb memory card for £110.00 all in. Although the uk sellers were cheaper theirs were listed as refurbished. I enquired on both sites, and sent several emails to investigate more and found that time may be the decideding factor as I required this item asap and decided to go with the uk seller.

Although the camera arrive in plenty of time and looked in an excelant shape, there were some difference, the s5700 had a larger screen and faster upload and down load speed, the on/off fucntion was was better on the s5700, but found the set up and other fuctions slighlty challenging to use, especially the Mpixel set up. however I also found that the s5700 was not as good on close up shots and just using the normal lens the image was out of focus after the first bar, even using my macro lens this happen at bar 7. the s5500 was better and i could take detailed shots with a clear image. I considered the fact that perhaps thier was a fault with this item as it was described as refurbished.
The seller after I had contacted him with regards to this issue asked me to return it but i had to pay the postage I found this annoying and disappointed, because I had just spent over £90.00 buying this item which was described as working and in a good condition, when the return postage is added this would increase and I may have just as well brought from abroad. I have not left a feedback. because I hope this seller will except that I had paid out a lot of money and he assured me this was a fully tested and working item, and I also in my last email to him, had ask for a fully working item as I needed a dependerble working item.

Great camera. Comfortable to hold and takes super sharp photos both in natural light and indoors. Flash is automatic but can be overridden and not needed for most indoor shots.
A 2Gb card can hold over 1100 pics at full resolution and is a doddle to download to computer or direct to a printer.
The batteries seem to last for ages. Rechargables can also be used.
Zoom up to X40 using the 10 X optical zoom as well as the 4 X digital zoom. Suprememly sharp pics when using zoom.
Use the auto setting and leave all the technical bits to the camera, it works a dream.
All in all, a great little camera that compares very well with big boy slr's at a fraction of the price.

I only recieved this camera today, and I am already most impressed, having played with it all day. At first I thought it a little difficult to hold, but then, no! this is how I want a camera to feel.I can hold it fairly steady in one hand. The zoom (10x) is great until you start to reach its limit, then you do loose out on the focus, but up to around 7x to 8x its fine. (digital zoom, I have not tried yet). The Macro feature will give you wonderful images of coins, stamps, insects etc. The only thing on the down side is that on auto flash, you tend to have your left hand fingers on the flash cover when it pops open, so learn to keep your index finger to the side, and your thumb on the underside and you will keep it very steady indeed. The LCD screen is clear and bright. For its price & features I will give it ten out of ten.

  FinePix 25700 Digital SLR Camera
Review created: 23/01/08

I am really pleased with this camera. I think that the best thing that I benefit from it is the super macro of up to 1cm away from the subject, and as I enjoy macro photography this is really helpful. I was slightly disappointed that the lens isn't interchangable, but the zoom that it comes with (10x) is really good anyway, probably enough for me!

I think that the only thing that is perhaps not as good as extreme digital SLR cameras for professionals (not that this isn't!) is that there isn't a manual focus, and sometimes, especially with macro photography, it is easier to have manual focus if the camera just won't focus on the subject, but in this case I just focus on something else that is bigger, at the same ditance away, and it usually focuses easily on that and then it keeps focus on the original subject.

Overall I would give it perhaps 4.9/5 (0.1 being the no manual focus, but that doesn't stop me taking any pictures so not too serious!), and I would recommend it!

Its a great camera really easy to use once you have trudged through the instruction book it not thick just a little confusing at times, there are only 2 problems or rather niggles.

1, The zoom lever is sort of around the shutter button so you cant zoom and click quickly if something happens in the distance, would have been nice to have the zoom worked with the left hand.

2, No separate sync socket for an off camera flash so you are stuck with the little one on the camera itself, although good and seems powerful you just cant get really creative with the lighting if you needed to.

Like I say only minor points but if I had realised I may have thought twice.

  FUJIFILM FinePix S5700 Digital Camera

I recently bought a second one of these amazing cameras to replace one which fell off the end of Ryde pier. Fuji really did get it right when they released this model as part of their range of superzoom cameras.

The handling is simply superb. With a big handgrip and the large thumb-grip area it feels like a much bigger camera, but the light weight and the clever positioning of the controls mean that it’s perfectly possible to operate it one-handed. The zoom is very easy to control accurately; tapping it a little moves it just a fraction, while holding it down makes it zip to the other end of the range.

The big 10x lens (38-380mm 35mm equivalent) is now fully internal and doesn’t extend either when the camera is powered up, or when zooming. The anti-vibration feature prevents camera shake at long distances by altering the ASA settings. Like other Fuji lenses, there is a minor element of colour fringing in extreme conditions - into the sun, bright lights etc - but for a big zoom it is a very sharp lens indeed. It has a 46mm filter thread and so accepts filters, lens hoods and attachments like a proper SLR. The macro capability focuses down to about 1cm.

Battery duration is excellent. It runs on four AA batteries, and a cheap set of ordinary alkaline batteries will provide well over 300 shots.

The only thing I didn't like was the stupid case, which was too small and the zip could scrape on the large 2.5" LCD screen.

The camera has style, good performance, manual exposure options, excellent low-light ability and fantastic handling, and tops it off with superb image quality.

As a photographer of about 60 years I have resisted digital cameras. Mainly I must admit through ignorance. I eventually gave in so that my wife could have a simple camera for a holiday of a lifetime in Canada. When I saw the results of a camera costing 65.00 on E-bay I was amazed. If you can read the simple instructions you can take wonderful pics, after only a few mins.I have been converted to such an extent that I am looking for another for myself. 10 out of 10 to Fuji, tonyh

I bought this camera just last week and so far i'm just loving everything about it. Its sort of halfway between an ordinary digi camera and an SLR. Lots of spec to it. Nice to hold. Not a very good onboard memory but hey memory cards are so cheap nowadays it's not really a problem. Got a 2GB card so plenty of room on there. Treat yourself to a pretty cheap case here on E-Bay, there's plenty to go at! I'm awaiting one myself. Look out for the silver metallic camera instead of the normal dull (in my opinion) black finish, that's what i bought...really astounding colour it is! Picture quality with this camera is spot on. This mega pixel 'thing' has got silly now, 7.1 on the S5700 is more than adequate. You can pick this camera up on the internet right now for just over £100 and that includes free delivery...check it out! To sum up, the S5700 is a truly excellent camera...go out and buy one now...you won't regret it!

The quality of picture is amazing, especially at night. With the ability to set the exposure to 4 seconds you can take perfect quality pictures at night without any flash. Best camera i've ever used, not that ive used many but for the price you cannot fault this camera. Even the quick shot quick motion setting is fantastic, no blur on movement at all. Purchased this for our holiday this year for good quality high res pictures and i have no doubt at all it will capture everything perfect.

Top Quality at a reasonable cost

I've owned a Fuji Digital Camera, of a more basic sort, for some years now and I was hoping to get something a bit more advanced without having to spend hundreds of pounds. I have seen the S5700 for sale, new, at around £100, and considered getting one. Then I spotted a used one on eBay that looked as though it had been looked after. So, I bid for it, and made a useful saving on the new price. How pleased I have been with it !. It produces superb quality photos and, 'though it has many features, it is dead easy to use. With a clear screen and a fine digital viewfinder (essential I think!), it is ready to go as soon as you switch on. Battery consumption is very low. I was always changing the batteries with the old Fuji. But not now. It is light in weight and well balanced and you soon get used to keeping your fingers away from the controls.
For anyone wishing to have something more sophisticated than a simple "point and shoot" camera, but not wanting to budget hundreds, I can thoroughly recommend the S5700, new or used.

The large 2.5" LCD screen, 10X optical zoom, ease of use and 7.1 MP resolution combine to make this neat product a very worthy camera.

I got this as I had sold my film SLR camera, and wanted to enter dig. photography. I could see few disadvantages when comparing the S5700 "bridge" camera with a more expensive DSLR. The main disadvantage seems to be lesser aperture size, as the lens is optically inferior to a typical SLR lens. I can live with this, as this camera has many excellent features, and I bought it at actionj for £90! Compare this to at least £300 for a DSLR.

If you fancy stepping up from a compact, you could do much worse than this model.

I had been looking for a new digital camera for christmas that would be cheap but still have all the great features and sepcs of a more expensive camera and this was definately the right choice!
7MP with 10x optical zoom and a list of features to satisfy even the most varied photographer, including macro and different scene selections, this is a great camera!
The only problem I have is that I can only find one case for it with most reviews saying that the case is too small. . . everything else is great and I would definately recommend it!
