FUJIFILM A860 Digital Camera

The A850 and A860 are two of Fuji’s budget cameras, however upon testing we could not determine what makes them different.

Both cameras are 8.1 MegaPixels and both have an optical zoom of 3x, they also have a selectable sensitivity, record video (and sound) and have 14 selectable scene modes, the only noticeable differences are the colours that they are available in.

When buying a budget camera you don’t expect it to produce the best results however the images that this camera produces are excellent, on paper the spec is great and when testing the video I was quite surprised with the quality.

I like the fact that Fuji are now moving away from the XD pictures cards and moving onto the more popular and more commonly used SD memory card, it’s an even bigger plus that this sort of camera would support the SDHC (High Capacity) card.

This camera is very light, easy to use and so is the perfect candidate for beginners, it also easily falls into the budget of a camera for youngsters.

Bad Points:-

The battery life can be a concern and it would be recommended that a decent set of rechargeable AA batteries were used as standard AA’s run down too quickly.

To summarise; this budget camera will fulfil your requirements of a basic point & shoot, its simple to use and the images are on par with many higher priced cameras.

My 10-year old daughter needed a camera for a field trip with her school.
Most childrens' cameras on the market were plastic, bulky and with poor image performance.
My personal specification requirements were ease of use, photo capacity and photo quality, build quality, compactness and price. A major consideration was not to spend a fortune on a camera that had a strong potential to get lost, dropped & smashed or drowned.
After performing a couple of hours on the web I decided that the Fujifilm A860 Digital Camera fulfilled all the requirements admirably. And for a very reasonable price of £50 (includes 12-months accidental insurance cover) it certainly did!
With a resolution of 8.1 megapixel and a 2GB SD card providing almost 1,000 good quality images, even my 7-year old daughter has been snapping away and producing very decent A4 size pin-sharp photos.
The camera also has many extra features to further enhance things if that is ever required, but we've found that the 'auto' function copes adequately well in a wide variety of conditions.
Two good quality AA batteries are an essential.
The bundled software is just as easy to use as the camera. Plugging in the provided USB cable automatically triggers the downloading of new images onto the PC.
If you want a rugged, attractive and compact camera at a very realistic price, then I feel that you couldn't do much better than the Fujifilm A860. My daughter thinks it's great and is probably the first ever possession that she's shown any respect for.
