Great journey, better than long way down, by far.
Ewan & Charlie are far more natural in their first journey, and the whole event was less predictable than the long way down, plus the scenery/enviroment changed more during the trip.

Bought this a s Christmas gift for my husband.
We had watched the TV show following Ewan andd Charley on their travels and had thoroughly enjoyed it so bought the DVD to catch up on all the bits the TV didn't show.
I would recommend this to anybody, even if you don't like Motorbikes, Ewan McGregor or travel it is still a fascinating story full of fun, adversity, sadness and excitement.

  An Inspiration!

This TV series is absolutely amazing, for both men and women. It is primarily about motorbikes, travelling and an amazing journey, but upon reaching Russia, Mongolia and Siberia it turns into a death-defining, mentally exhausting expedition. With Ewan and Charley meeting the strangest people, doing their bit for charity and trying to cross collapsed bridges and avoiding 20 foot pot holes...the only things getting them through are the amazing crew (where a strong male bond that will last forever is created), the smooth roads to come (in America) and seeing their families.
A truly inspiring watch that makes you want to live life to the fullest!
This 3-disc DVD allows you to delve deeper than ever before by seeing exclusive post-production interviews with the stars, directors and producers which adds new light to the trip.

Pure escapism - a (off) road motorbike trip without equal it captures your attention and fires your imagination as you travel with Ewan and Charley from London to New York overland.

Good quality photography with lots of interesting events along the way ensures you maintain interest - but having said that its definitely a bloke movie.

It had me wishing that I had undertaken such a journey in my youth and got me thinking about planning to do something similar but on a smaller scale - I say "similar" and "smaller" because being older than the lads I have gone soft and like my creature comforts and smaller because I couldn't afford the attendant support team and it would be fool hardy to contemplate such a journey without them.

Clear your diary for a day, get the wife and kids out of the house, make sure you have few cases of chilled beer to hand, order a pizza delivery and invite the lads round and watch from end to end.

Both my wife and I are bikers so thought we'd have a look at this dvd. We actually watched their second trip, Long Way Down, first as it was on tele and really enjoyed that so then went looking on ebay for this one and also really enjoyed it too.
It gives an insight into the two bikers, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, as they take on the mammoth trip around the world. One obvious reason to watch was to see what Ewan is like in real life and another reason was to actually find out about Charley as neither of us had heard of him before we watched either series.
We've chatted to friends about the series and about Ewan and Charley, few of them disliked it but my wife and I enjoyed it especially the fact that it shows the ups and downs, good days and bad, easy riding sections of the trip as well as the accidents and the agreements and disagreements between the two.
All in all we both agreed that Long Way Round is well worth the money to buy and the time to watch whether your a biker or not.

Hi. My daughter bought this DVD for me for my birthday. I followed the series on TV and really wanted to get the DVD to see all the extras. I thought the whole DVD was brilliant and really enjoyed it all.

I felt like I really got involved and started to care about, not just the main characters, but everyone. I've always been a huge Ewan McGregor fan.

On the whole I would definitely recommend this if you like to laugh as they are both very funny. If you want to feel some eagerness and like to follow stories and will people on, then this is the perfect DVD for you!

Hope enjoy it because I really did!

Dean.

This is great viewing. After watching the Long Way Doen series on Television recently, I had to buy the previous series on DVD. 'Long Way Round'. It gives such a good insight into countries that you wouldn't normally visit and also into the way of life the people of these countries live. Ewan and Charley were great to watch, sometimes getting on really well and other time not so well. It was a great struggle to finish the Road of Bones in Russia, and they needed a lot of help to get over the swollen rivers, as most didn't have bridges. Can't wait for them to do another series.

Great idea, 2 mates and 3 support/filming vehicles bike from hammersmith to new york via Europe, russia, mongolia etc!
Aside from a couple of flights to negotiate oceans, Ewan and Charlie have to battle some terrible road conditions to get where they're going but have a great adventure on the way.
What I like best is probably the relationship between Charlie and Ewan; 2 great friends who you'd love to chat to at your local; full of love for their families but farting and sweating like your own mates do... there's no pretentious nonsense as you'd maybe expect from 'lovies' and the filming is totally 'au naturel', no rose-tinted glasses or soft focus stuff. Warts and all and better for it.
The supporting team are all likeable as are the local folks in the places they pass through.
Great scenery and surprises, some genuine unicef emotional stuff and loads more.
Me and my 10 year old daughter watched the series on tv and bought the 3 disc dvd too. Loved it.
An inspiration for an advenure of your own.

Daz

I had heard about a documentary that Ewan MGregor had done, but i was never sure of the title then when i finally did find out. I immediately went out and got it.
I absolutely loved it, i entertained the whole series and found that i saw Ewan and Charley in a whole different light....they seemed more human and i came away feeling like i know them.

  LONG WAY ROUND
Review created: 17/01/09

This is a fairly old title now but still very good to watch and interesting.

For anyone who is not aware of what it is, it is basically the round world trip by Ewan McGREGOR and Charlie BOORMAN on motor bikes more or less inspired by some one who did it in the 50's or 60's. It follows them from planning the trip, preparing for it and then doing it and completing it.

the good bits about this adventure of theirs is the meeting of diffrent people with a small amount of diffrent customs and cultures exposed from diffrent parts of the world. However its not a Michael PALIN documentary and so does not going into as much detail. It also shows a lot of nice scenery.

The nex best thing to going on a motorcycle adventure yourself but much cheaper and less dangerous. A very interesting and entertaining series even if you are not a motorcycling enthusiast.

Great video series if you like travel adventure, and the guys can be pretty funny, especially when they're not trying.

Good if you aren't looking for dry, textbook-like travel diaries.
