  Great output when it works

This printer can produce absolutely stunning photo output at 720DPI on a range of printer papers.
The problems with this printer is that its tempermental with non-epson ink refills etc...
A set of epson durabrite inks cost £24, each ink £7. However, after buying several you will find they dont have many mls of ink in them. And you wil not want to use the printer for 'bog standard' printing. (When you buy a set, A tip is to buy 2 magenta carts because this goes far faster than the other colours)

So, you will soon conserve these precious inks for producing photos which do not fade, and find your self looking around for non-epson ink alternatives for 'bog standard' printing of reports letters etc.. which will result in inky fingers and lots of messing around.

Before you proceed further down this road, you have to evaluate your options. Frustration, hairloss and frequent cleaning cycles await, clothes, fingers, furniture covered in ink, having to get to grips with the internal mechanics of the printer inkflow and print head, return machanism, tricks to get hold of the printhead, unclogging with fluids etc.. before 'bog standard' printing is delivered.

So you have to be very careful about these alternatives. But once you have a relatively stable system its well worth it.

Often these printers are sold with clogged heads 2ndhand. If you have the misfortune of not using the printer and the ink drying on the head, you are in for a ROUGH time (hours) of trying to unblock it. I had a block on the yellow ink which had dried over a month of not using it. Having stripped down my old D92 to get at the precious epson head, so I could unblock this persistant block, and after days of soaking it in varoius fluids, cleaning it with an ultrasonic toothbrush etc.. Hot distilled water, alchohol etc... Its STILL TOTALLY BLOCKED.

And this is was a dye based ink. If the printer was used for more expensive pigment based inks they are meant to be even more difficult to unblock.

So be careful in buying them 2nd hand.
