Austen would have been proud!

As a novel Emma is full of wit, satire and social commentary and the film does not let the book down. Paltrow plays Emma brilliantly and is supported by an excellent cast, particularly Jeremy Norton as Mr Knightley. The actors really lift the witty retorts, the social observations and the manners, particularly of the more ridiculous characters right off the page.
Emma is a very cleverly written novel and this transpires well in the film. I bought the DVD as I had just finished reading Emma for the fifth time and wanted to watch it brought to life - I also liked it better than an earlier remake of the novel as Emma was played by Gwyneth Paltrow ( whom I can normally take or leave ) and I felt she was excellent - even her British upper class accent was faultless. Well done all round ! - if you are a fan of Jane Austen, Classic English Literature or just good old fashioned wit and bodged romance ( without the soppiness) this is the film for you - oh and EWan Mcgregor is in it too which always a bonus!!!
