Includes liner notes by Peter Guralnick.By the late 1990s, Elvis fans had plenty of reason to bear suspicious minds regarding posthumous Presley collections, the barrel being seemingly scraped dry years earlier. Such reservations are put to rest by even a cursory listen to SUSPICIOUS MINDS. The two-disc collection captures the period just after Elvis' famous "'68 comeback." He was rediscovering his roots and getting gloriously gritty and funky. It would be the king's last hurrah before descending into Vegas showbiz glitz. These 1969 recordings were all made in Memphis under the sure hand of producer Chips Moman and his eminently soulful Muscle Shoals cohorts. Elvis takes on everything from country ("From a Jack to a King") to churning, gutsy R&B ("Power of My Love") with abandon. Even those already familiar with this material will find reason to cheer in the inclusion of several previously unreleased alternate takes.

My own thoughts on this CD are just the same as most Elvis fans i recon!!
Elvis never sounded more soulful and puts 110% into every song. Songs like Only the strong survive, After loving you, Kentucky rain.... and of coarse out of this session came Suspicious minds and In the ghetto.
This has to be in all music lovers CD collections not just Elvis fans.
CD 2 on this set is made up of rarer out-takes from the session and demonstrates Elvis great talent stripped to the bare bones, no overdubs and a startling simplicity to the music that makes it very listenable... This is an Elvis classic...
