Sumner & The Stamps, Kathy Westmoreland, The Sweet Inspirations, Sherrill Nielsen, The Imperials Quartet, The Nashville Edition.Compilation producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon.The first of several massive sets of rare and unissued Presley recordings, ELVIS ARON PRESLEY (sometimes called "The Silver Box") is a four-CD grab bag spanning the twenty-year career of America's biggest pop star. Other boxes in the series include ELVIS: A GOLDEN CELEBRATION, which largely consists of Presley's 1956 television and concert performances, and PLATINUM: A LIFE IN MUSIC, which intersperses alternate takes and demos previously released hits.Disc one of ELVIS ARON PRESLEY contains two early concerts. The first, a notoriously disastrous 1956 stint in Las Vegas, finds Presley singing well to a totally indifferent audience, ultimately resorting to self-deprecating humor in a vain effort to get patrons to put down their forks and applaud. The second, a 1961 benefit for the USS Arizona Memorial, features a solid run-through of Presley's early hits before an adoring crowd. Disc two includes soundtrack outtakes, notable for Presley's inability to complete some of the more ludicrous numbers (such as "Dating") without giggling. Also featured are excepts from Presley's television specials and numerous live performances from the '70s. The unquestionable highlight of the set comes at the end of disc three: four lovely tracks of Presley singing alone at the piano.
