18 great tracks by Elkie Brooks
The CD starts superbly with Pearl's A Singer, so it cannot go far wrong. Subsequent tracks include covers of Gasoline Alley, Nights in White Satin, Fool To think It's Over, all transformed into something new by Brooks' warm and unique style. One track began with a lyric I hadn't heard before - "This is a fickle age, Cheating is all the rage," but it turned out to be the rarely heard opening verse of Ain't Misbehavin', so that was a treat. The final track - the evocative and moving Lilac Wine - was worth the price of the whole CD. I'm very pleased I bought it.
