Edward Scissorhands (DVD 2000)

A different kind of film. Probably classified as an afternoon film. Worth a watch. The plot is different and must have been dreamed up !!

Depp makes this into a quality film.

Edward Scissorhands is the archetypal Johnny Depp film. He and Tim Burton are a team-and they make a good one! Despite all of the similar carnivalesque films since Edward Scissorhands (such as Nightmare Before Christmas and more recently the Corpse Bride), this film remains a leader as a whimsical, enchanting and truly heartwarming (and breaking at times) story.
The basic synopsis is:

An old inventor lives in a spooky mansion at the end of a suburban lane (I love the way in which Tim Burton makes the perfect houses look just as freaky as the old mansion, as though something's not quite right). He creates a companion, Edward. Before Edward is complete, the inventor dies. Cue the Avon lady, who takes Edward under her wing and introduces him to her family and her neighbourhood, which she comes to realise is not as nice as she thought. Edward meets prejudice, hate, betrayal and love, but ultimately overcomes his negative experiences for his pure and beautiful love for Elizabeth (Winona Ryder).

This film is great for kids and adults alike-Burton tells a story through Scissorhands (superbly played by Depp), whose innocence and naivety is truly astounding. This film really hits home with the lessons we learn from it-that there are more important things in life than keeping up with the Joneses (i.e. the entire neighbourhood that Edward lives in are superficial and do not realise that there really are more important things in life than having a designer privet hedge).

The beautiful innocence that Depp portrays has to be seen to be believed-you warm to his character immediately and laugh and cry with him through his encounters with the outside world that he sees ultimately from a baby's eyes.

This is a must see film.

Love, love, love this film and have been trying to find a copy for ages so i can show it to my daughters as i think they will love it as much as me. If you want a good film for a boring Sunday or a quite night then this is for you, Johnny Deepe proves he has always been a great actor and is a thrill to watch in this film

I love this film because its so original. Nothing like it before or since it was made. Ryder and Depp at their best!

a good old film for the family, maybe not some younger children, my 5 year old favourite film, so depends on the child if they will like it .

My 10 year old grandson loves Pirates of the Caribbean, I asked him if he liked Edward Scissorhands as it was the same actor, he said he had not seen it. I looked on ebay and got it for him, it was so cheap with free P & P. He has watched it 2 or 3 times and loves it. I know most films are on Sky channels but they are sometimes on late. I think it was money well spent.

The music, the sets and the magical story - fantastic. The detail of the characters and what they wear is great. You can't help but fall in love with it

A classic that will be enjoyed for many years to come. My 4 year old daughter already a fan of this film

Loved this story , Johnny Depp plays a brilliant part of Edward the man with scissors for hands.My family really enjoyed this sat down together and watched this one without getting bored.Would reccomend!!

Then reason I want to buy it because I want to remember it from the past as when I was little girl.
The thing I love was the story about Edward. It'd made me cry a lot.
I do not have anything about dislike, just love it so much.
The actor of Johnny Deep is good acting as Edward to become like confusing character. I didn't know he looked so younger in there when I first knew him in the Pirate and the Caribbean film when I was in teen. I didn't know it was him as first actor in Edward Scissorhands. That's why I bought it from it.

very different story great settings & outfits.
suitable for all ages but i think would appeal to teenagers more than most.

Great Film got a nostalgic element, and I was amazed when my two year old little girl loved it as much as I did.

ever since i saw film xx when barry norman gave a simply glowing review of this film and introduced me to johnny depp, i knew this film was going to mean something to me. it did n't disappoint and is probably in my top 20 films of all time. Watch and enjoy11

It is a great film the story and cinematography is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. Very good.

I loved the way Johnny Depp played Edward, he really took the character to heart and played him with real emotion, which really catches your heart. A truly captivating film, which will keep you watching, it makes you happy and sad at the same time. A great film, but could of had a twist or something really unique in the story to make you watch it again...and again....

I would recommend this as a great film for the kids, but maybe not for the teenagers.



Overall 4/5 stars, a great film, but I have seen better films. Johnny Depp made this a truly magical film. 4/5 :)
