Pink Floyd - Echoes (The Best Of Pink Floyd) (CD 2001)

This compilation spans Pink Floyd's career from 1967s 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' to 1994s 'The Division Bell'. There has been an attempt to segue many of the tracks into each other and the tracks selected do represent a sizeable portion of Pink Floyd's best songs (the selections were voted for by the band themselves and Roger Waters). If tracks like 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond', 'Comfortably Numb', 'Money', 'Another Brick in the Wall (part 2)'and 'Time' do nothing for you then you should perhaps be out buying the latest Crazy Frog record. So, a double CD compilation of great songs from one of the most popular bands ever sounds great. And it is. But...
Pink Floyd were (and are, if applicable) predominantly an album band. Their biggest sellers - 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall' - are albums that function as units and are so strong that I would actually recommend them more than this compilation, which, in its attempt to collate everything ends up sounding patchy. British television runs any number of top 100 shows (top 100 films ever, top 100 comedy shows ever, etc.) the basic format of which is to run down the list from 100 to 1 showing excerpts from each and having people talk about why they were so good. I always feel after watching one of these programmes that the clips from the featured shows are great, but it's not the same as seeing the show itself. This is how I feel after listening to this compilation.
It could have been more satisfying if it had been compiled chronologically, but the truth is that given the strength of all the main Pink Floyd albums in their own right, any compilation (bar maybe material previously unavailable on CD) is almost certainly redundant.

I thought I was a bit late on the uptake being 37 & just thinking about Pink Floyd. I remember in 95 staying in a hotel near to their London gig & seeing the 2 huge faces on the top of the place they were playing. I listened to them well into the night but never really thought much about them. Then I heard comfortably numb and liked it very much. It interested me enough to invest in this CD. Some tracks brought back childhood memories, others seemed too cheesy on the effects and 'we're trying too hard to be weird' front, I found the lead singers voice a little annoying after a while, wishing for some instrumental tracks. But it's piqued my interest enough to listen to it all even more. I'm glad I have it in my collection as I feel they're a group that will never be forgotten.

Just love this album. Its a top band. was good to see them together last year but hopes of apermanent reunion are faded and long gone. They produced some terrific music when they were together. Its nice to keep listening to. My grand-daughter is even into listening to this, and she is only 9.

This is my other most favourite album of all time. Best is the operative word. This is certainly Floyd at their best - from their early work right through to later masterpieces. Echoes was originally the B. Side to the LP called Meddle and I loved it then and love it now. Again, only bought this as someone 'borrowed' my last copy. Can not live without my regular dose of Floyd at I get withdrawal symptons. This is a fantastic album, incorporating the best of rock in Floyd's unique progress as, in my opinion, the best rock group in the world. This work highlights the various stages musical stages they went through, incorporating the changing moods of the years and their journey through life. Brilliant music throughout. These guys are some of the best composers of rock music the world has ever seen. BRILLIANT ALBUM and a must for all Floyd fans and the new generation of rock fans.

Bought this for my husband and he thinks its great which is good enough for me. Good value even with postage.

Could never understand why a lot of people raved on about Floyd in my younger days. I new all their popular tracks but could never quite get into the albums.
Don't misunderstand me - never disliked them because they were very talented and innovative musicians and I respect that.
Years later I heard the Echoes CD and thought that I ought to have it so that I had some Floyd in my collection.
Can thoroughly recommend this album to anyone not sure of the band. Its an excellent cross section of their music over the years.

Well !! there is a bit of a puzzle here. I did win the auction for Pink Floyds Echoes album and I sent off the cheque.(approximatly two weeks ago) The cheque has not been cashed and I have not received the album. I have e-mailed Paula Morris (the really happy shopper) asking if there is a problem (twice) but have not received a reply. So unfortunately I cannot comment on this sale. I have been a massive Pink Floyd for the past 15 years and recently expanded on my collection. Echoes is definitely a group of their best hits which takes you on a journey through the years. A must buy if you are into your Floyd.

i have been changing all my vinyl over to CD's and was struggling to get this Pink Floyd album in the local music shops.
its a fantastic album but there are still a few classics missing from it

I am a Pink Floyd fan but do not have every CD they made, I have collected 6 over the years. This compilation is excellent because it gives a complete musical history of the group. Most of the tracks are well known and the contents are perfect for others like me. Equally if anyone just likes this group then this one CD fits the bill.
I recommend it to anyone who has this type of musical taste happy listening.

E-bay is always the best place to start when you want to buy something,and when I wanted the Pink Floyd double CD Echoes,I found it for just £4.99 + £2.00 p&p.
It had been used,but plays as if it was brand new at a fraction of the price!.

A friend played me this CD, and I was so impressed that I had to have a copy. I've liked Floyd for a long time, but don't own much and there's a large back-catalogue to collect. This album presents some of Floyd's finest and best-known tracks, from the early years through to the late. It's a really well-rounded selection. What's more, the way the tracks have been selected and ordered provides an impressive and seamless flow through from the album's beginnings through to it's close. Not many 'Best of' albums are so finely crafted. If you already own most of Floyd's stuff, this may not be for you...unless you can't be bothered to flit through to find those particular tracks that you like. Floyd's albums tend to have a fairly holistic feel, perhaps because of the popularity of prog-rock and concept albums during their youth, and it's rare that this feel is captured in a 'Best of' album. Recommended.

This at least has the benefit of being chosen by all the pink Floyd except Syd who was not available that day.

Like all compelations yiou can list all the bad songs which are included, and theb pricess gems omitted. I get the impression that they have played safe to avoid a clash between Roger and Dave.

The album is excellenbt value with lots of extended tracks, and very good value.
