this is a very good movie and it made me smile. if you like a good movie about a paki family then this is the one. my whole family enjoyed watching it but beware there is some bad language.

When I first saw this film, it hit the nail on the head. Coming from a pakistani family, although my family is very modern.. I do see a resemblance in many places I go where families are very strict and have had problems from arranged marraiges.

It's about a father of 6 sons and 1 daughter, being stuck in his ways of old traditions that he's brought with him from pakistan - wanting to marry his sons off to women they've never met.. wanting to do his community proud and having his children be better people in the eyes of Islam.

Plenty of comedy in this film.. I can't think of a film to compare this with - I have to admit I think this film is in a league of it's own and if there is anyone out there who didn't find this hilarious, I'd be very interested in meeting you.

Seen this film a good 15-20 times now but HAD to add it to my collection on DVD.. add this to yours too!

Hi! it was recommended by my friend, very practical movie just like real life.ther are lots of comedy part in movie.How the one dessision make whole life worst that marriage but any way it was great movie. everybody needs to see once in life this movie.

Another brilliant British film. Down to earth story line that you can relate to. Humour, drama and just enough tradgedy to make it believable. All round good entertainment but then it is a British film.

One of my favourite films been after it for months,came quickly and well packaged and in good working order, thankyou very much.

Set in the early 1970s, East is East takes a light hearted look at cultural collisions within the multiracial Khan family in Salford. George Khan is a Pakistani immigrant who is trying to bring up his large family whilst holding on to Pakistani and Muslim traditions. Meanwhile his seven children, who have all been born and bred in Britain, are more interested in embracing western culture. George’s English wife wants her children to be brought up as normal British kids whilst being loyal to her husband without undermining him. Together they run the local fish and chip shop.

The film focuses on the different reactions within the family to arranged marriages for the eldest sons to girls they have never seen. There are some poignant moments and some surprises against the context of racial tensions and stereotypical characters as eastern and western cultures start to collide.

An enjoyable film not to be missed. Recommended viewing if you have not seen it before.

Film was recommended to me, after initially renting it found it such a good, funny and in some ways a true account of how things used to be some years back I had to buy it! Provides a lot of light hearted laughs and shows how a mix race marriage can and does work along with the 'threats' of bringing over Mrs Khan No1 when he felt he wasn't having things go his way! Great family viewing and light hearted comedy in many ways with what some would say is perhaps an insight into the conflicts within say someone's own mind and personal issues or thoughts against what is maybe expected of them within their family and beliefs.

A film worth watching and enjoying and taking as a light hearted comedy along with what many tell us is also an element of truth in how things were years ago.

Since buying have watched it a few times and never tire of watching it and enjoy it each time have viewed it. Friends who seen it enjoyed it also and found it good film to watch.

Add to this many of the actors and actresses in it you can pick out as having played roles within many of the regular soaps in itself can be fun remembering what soap oepra they were in!

A good movie should be quotable, and East is East really is. It's full of laugh out moments and hilarious family mishaps that are truely memorable. At first i didn't like East is East and if you find you don't like it on first watch give it another chance...it won't disapoint.

set in the 70s this has got to be one of the funniest films I have seen in ages and this film tells a story of a pakistani father who has strong pakistani values but his children and wife have other ideas and he tries to arrange marriages for his sons but this dosen't go to plan a brilliant and truly hilarious film you must watch it to appreciate its content.

This film is a classic! Can't believe you can't get it in the shops anymore... hence the love of ebay! Funny, lighthearted film that you can watch over and over again! Definately recommend this purchase... watching it just isn't enough- you need to own it! :o)

I was relieved to finally secure a copy of this DVD having being outbid for several previously.

It was a birthday request from my daughter and she's delighted.
