Having had an upright DC01 for many years with no problems, it seemed logical to get a cylinder Dyson when we moved to our old cottage with a combination of carpets, floorboards, tiles and uneven stone floors. We also have four cats which is another reason for choosing a Dyson as from experience with the DC01, nothing picks up pet hair so efficiently. I was really excited about using this new Dyson for the first time as I thought they would have made huge improvements to them over the years and with it being specifically for hard floors and pet owners I was sure it would be the ultimate vacuum. Sure it still has brilliant suction to pick up the pet hairs but, the hose is fitted to one side of the vacuum so that if you don't clip it into the front when you pull it it turns sideways all the time rather than following you around the room. Also, the extending part of the hose doesn't always lock into place so it ends up getting shorter as you vacuum! The Turbo Head is ok but not as good as an upright at picking up hairs as it works only when you push it. The machine is also bulky and heavy to carry. And, the fact that the hose wraps around the machine isn't anything to get excited about and I hardly ever bother doing it as it's so cumbersome. Don't get me wrong, this is a good vacuum and if you must have a cylinder cleaner then I'd say buy this one but, for this sort of money (mine was about £250) and with all the claims they make about it, I expected more. My DC01 was/is much better and given the choice again, I would choose one of their upright models. If you found my review helpful, please vote helpful below. Thankyou for your support. I decided to buy a new Dyson as my previous DC04 was showing signs of giving up the ghost after years of faithful service. Once, I had a demonstration form Kirby at my home and was very impressed but was unable to justify the £1000+ price tag for a vacuum cleaner. The Dyson seemed a better compromise. Having cats and dogs here at home, my attention was drawn to the Animal models of the Dyson range because of its design and filters so, having scrutinised the Ebay site for a DC08, I eventually found one. It was a very different proposition from the old model. It is lighter, more powerful and removes dirt and pet hair with apparent ease. It also picks up larger items such as small pieces of wood and ash, from the woodburner. The old model just pushed these around, but the DC08 removes them effortlessly. Overall, I am delighted with the Dyson and would recommend it to any pet owner. Review ID: 10000000003683349 Was this review helpful? I bought the Dyson Animal because I was fed up with indifferent performances from other hoovers. They were just no good at picking up pet hairs. Review ID: 10000000007428936 Was this review helpful? Took me a while to work out that the wand extends!!!!!!!!! Tool holder gets in the way but otherwise an excellent machine Review ID: 10000000007147274 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
