Dune David Lynch

First time I watche Dune was over 15 years ago (so you've got a rough idea about my age...) Everything had looked so weird to me and I was young and pretty impatient--guess what? I fell asleep and had to pull off the videotape and return it to the shop after waking up from my sweet little dream. No, my first meaningful encounter with David Lynch had to wait a while longer--Twin Peaks, that was.
I watched Dune again several days ago thanks to the Observer freebie. Even it was well after midnight, I found myself quite spirited and excited. The incredibly fresh and young-looking Kyle Maclachlan (can you believe he's 24/25 when shooting the film?) contrasts every inch with what he was at Sex and the City, and the script wasn't too bad, either. I'm no sci-fi fan, I must confess. Watching the film doesn't make me become one, and I have to say I much prefer the darkness and intrigue that mark out Lynch's later contributions. Still, Dune is thoroughly enjoyable. The visual techniques may seem a bit dated from today's viewpoint, but hey, you got Kyle and Patrick Stewart in one go!
