Dukes Of Hazzard (DVD)

The Dukes Of Hazzard is the latest old TV series to get resurrected and given the big screen treatment. As in most cases, including the recent Starsky & Hutch and Bewitched, the film does the small screen version a disservice. It could be that nostalgia and a faltering memory bathe the original series in a more flattering light, but even so it's hard to believe that had it been as dreary as this, anyone would have suggested updating it for the movies.

Early on the curvaceous Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) talks about always having to rescue her cousins Luke (Johnny Knoxville) and Bo (Seann William Scott) whenever they get themselves in trouble. "Then I'm gonna have to shake my ass at somebody to get them out," she moans. It's the same tactic director Jay Chandrasekhar resorts to whenever things start to drag, which is all too often. The frequent shots of Simpson busting out of a skimpy outfit are testimony to the shortcomings of a film which, unlike the General Lee, fails to take off.

Watching endless scenes of the famed orange 1969 Dodge Charger, with its signature confederate flag on the roof, wheel-spinning round the fields of Hazzard County is, surprisingly, not as absorbing as it sounds. Nor is seeing the umpteenth police car flip over and crash. All of which might be forgivable had the moments inbetween the vehicularcide (or whatever is the phrase for the annihilation of hundreds of cars) been remotely amusing. But alas, they were not.

Both Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville have the ability to be funny, but unlike say Owen Wilson or Vince Vaughn, neither is inherently comical. Instead they are reliant on good material, something singularly lacking in The Dukes Of Hazzard. The plot hangs loosely around the plan by the sartorially splendid but corrupt commissioner Boss Hogg (a very leathery Burt Reynolds) to turn Hazzard's rural beauty into a strip mine. It's a plan opposed by the Duke clan which also includes Uncle Jesse (a self-conscious Willie Nelson), and Pauline (Lynda Carter).

The feisty Daisy has a well-earned reputation for handling herself in the face of the crude advances of Hazzard's redneck males. So when a newcomer to the bar she works in froths at the sight of her in her skimpy shorts, a local warns "look away, look away." It's a caution that could equally be aimed at The Dukes Of Hazzard.

exellent film havent laughed so much in years with the stuff the duke boys get up to and daisy duke all i can say is waw i would rate this film exellent watch it now

excellent film, thoroughly enoyed, the action pact pace of the film is what makes it so enjoyable, if your into cars or just nostalgic its a must have film

I always loved the old Dukes of Hazzard this adult one was great too.
Shame I will be unable to share with my grandchildren ( they are too young)
I will now be looking for more DVDs hopefully some of the old ones to share with the grandchildren

good movie if you liked the original series. loads of laughs and stunts with dry humor,its not a girly film but one for the boys after a few pints

as i said it's great if your 12 years old. not as good as the real thing. daisy never had blonde hair. the old daisy had a great pair of shafts (legs)

The film was a very good make, there are good laughs throughout the movie, and some sexy parts with Jessica simposon playing daisy duke, The main characters are sean william scott and johnny knoxville, as they play cousins bo and luke duke. The story line is, the new boss in town wants to posses the dukes farm because of the coal underneath it, and he will do anything to get it, but the cousins do everything to stop him from getting the land. There are alot of good stunts in the movie aswell, including a 150 ft car jump and some very good driving skills. A must see for a movie fan.

Used to watch the original Dukes Of Hazzard when I was younger and loved it, when this was released at the cinema I missed it so decided to get the DVD and to my relief I wasn't disappointed, its great from the car chases in the General Lee to Uncle Jessie, this DVD had me in stitches from start to finish

Jessica Simpson in hot pants and a pink bikini? why else!The two guys were a bit wet, Burt Reynalds as Boss Hogg worked well too!.

The best car/caper film since the legendary Smokey and the Bandit and Canonball Run! Casting was perfect as they captured the essence of the Dukes of Hazzard and we loved is so much back in the day....and love it still.....Not to mention Daisy Duke / Jessica Simpson....has to be seen to be believed!

I had watched this before buying and I liked the film that much I wanted my own copy, I have surround sound and this film sounds great.

Absolutely Amazing Movie. Shows Sean William Scott and Johhny Knoxville at their best. Very funny and very good car scenes! The very sexy Jessica Simpson is also very good in the movie. A Must See.

American thats all i have to say on this film no point to it what so ever a waist of money but the teens will love it i just wish the film industria in the USA would try and find some orginal scripts instead of ripping of the 1970's , one plus point Johnny Knoxville was great, i'm hoping they are better things to come from him like the Ringer, but all in all it was watchable.

This film captures most of what the televison series had, although I did notice a couple of mistakes, such as in the series it was always Bo Duke who was always after the women unlike in the film it is Luke, in the series Boss Hogg was short and fat whereas in the film he is the complete opposite. In the series sherif Roscoe was stupid and had a goofy hill-billy laugh in the film he is a lot smarter and has a evil laugh. There are a few other things i noticed but i'm not going into detail about them. Other than this little changes overall i think the film is pretty good, it has the fast driving, the little jokes and car stunts that made the television series so much fun. I think if you where a fan of the television show you are going to enjoy watching this film. 8/10 Thumbs up!!!

Great movie i seen it at the cinema and seeing it again was a must, and ebay is the place to buy any DVD's now, there was nothing that i disliked about this DVD, a must have for your collection.

I thought this movie might have a little 80's nostalgia about it, but for the General Lee, it didn’t. In fact, I think it probably did a better job of ruing our Saturday night childhood memories. I don’t remember Bow and Luke strutting around like they were on Viagra (welcome to 2009, where much is tainted). There were a couple of places that caused a grin, but for the most part it was a week movie, with no story.

I love this movie, its a great movie, great actors & actresses, its funny. It was delivered in great condition, a very cheap price for such a good dvd. The seller was prompt and it was delivered very quickly which is always a great thing for the buying customer. This dvd has special features, this is always great to watch after the movie. Overall this is great!

Yeah not a bad film,still i only bought it for the likes of Jessica Simpson lol,still plenty of car chases in this if you like that kinda thing,still prefer the orginal series but as ive said before this is an ok movie to sit and watch on a saturday night with a bag of popcorn and a beer.
