I'm not the type of person to exagerate things but this film was probably one of the worst ive ever seen, it was boring beyond belief, the film got to about 2minutes remaining and my mate and i were still waiting for some sort of flinch. It shouldn't be classed as a HORROR. There is more fear in me when i'm taking a dump and suspecting i have piles!

Film with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. The death of their young child in an accident takes them to Venice where a medium tells them that she is still alive with the spirits and accompanying them. The wife (Julie) Christie believes but experiences nothing, the husband (Donald Sutherland) denies yet is the sensitive one who begins to see what appears to be the daughter moving around the city in the red raincoat in which she drowned - in the opening scenes he senses her death. The sub plot of a murderer on the loose links with his final meeting with the person in the red raincoat, the dwarf who kills him.
Early on he has seen his wife, who is then in England, on a funeral barge on a Venetian canal...the final shot is that same scene but we know he is the body in the coffin.
The clash is between the believer, the wife, and the unbeliever who "sees" but denies the gift.
Probably also best known for the sex scene between husband and wife which cuts between the act and their looking back on it afterwards.
A clever and subtle film, the Dvd. only spoilt by a poor soundtrack which needed to be re-mastered digitally.

I bought it because I was bidding for another item this seller had listed, & it sounded a good view. It was a very low cost buy, & good value for money.

Chilling, gripping, eerie, erotic,a film that has it all

This is a very fine film, with superb performances by Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie, and a very scary plot- or two. Set in a wintry Venice that is for once not depicted as a picture-postcard, the story is based around the accidental drowning of the couple's young daughter, and the meeting of a medium in Venice who may-or may not- be able to communicate with her. And there is a murderer at large in the city. Subtle, creepy, tense, and with a highly erotic scene with the two stars, as well as a shocking ending, this is in my opinion a modern classic.

Excellent film, although dated in fashion it still maintains its gripping tale. Excellent acting and the love scene is marvelously portraited by the actors.

It was interesting, especially the migit. However i believe that even though making a little less sense than the film the current stage play is much more intersting. However the film was quite confusing, even though im studying it for drama a level

I felt it didn't live up to its claims that its the best British horror film of all time. The fact it was filmed in Venice i thought what was the point in that? other to let the viewers admirer the scenery.I suppose it was great in its day but the twist at the end i half expected it to happened as i've seen the same thing in other films since.I kind of think it was a simple film and not great acting by julie cristie either, thats my oppinion anyway. But on the whole i thought it was watchable.

Daphe Du Maurier's at her best.
Terrifying, hide behind the sofa psychological thriller with no gratuitous violence.
Excellent film that I have watched more than once (no mean feat) and scares me every time.
Great to have the film with the added extras that a dvd can bring, such as interactive menu with surround sound and widescreen viewing (just to scare you some more!)
