It's a great resource, covering selecting a breed of dog, tips related to training, and information related to dog behavior. It shows footage of dogs in different situations and a little of John Fisher but the narrator often talked over him. The final chapter, chapter 8, was an interesting recital of a personal experience John Fisher had with a challenging dog and how he handled it. This DVD is an overview and not heavily focused on oral commands.

  John Fisher?

Having read all of John Fisher's books, and after having spoken to people that knew him personally, I was keen to buy this DVD that uses his name. I am sorry to say that I am bitterly disappointed and am sure that John would be turning in his grave if he knew about it.
I am happy that it does indeed promote the kinder modern day training methods that John endorses, but it does not go into nearly enough detail. A lot of film time is also wasted just showing footage of dogs in training with no commentry or explanation.
Unfortunately, John Fisher died before he was able to update his books that only illustrate his early theories about dog training. He improved a lot of his ideas and later regretted some of the earlier methods that he had written about.
Forget this DVD as it does not include enough information, and as they always say, a little bit of knowledge in the wrong hands can be dangerous. Do youself a favour and read his books instead, then go on to research some of the current dog behaviour experts.

Dog Training - The John Fisher Way (DVD 2005)

Having read a number of John Fisher books I was delighted to find this DVD offering a visual aid to dog training "The John Fisher Way". Unfortunately apart from a few irrelevent clips of John he has very little to do with this DVD which seems to be a crass attampt to market what is actually a very mediocre training tool on the back of one of the St. Bernards of this field. It cound't be more detrimental to his reputation if they'd just dug up his corpse, placed it in centre frame and carried out the 'party tricks' around it.

I'm sure that this DVD might be of use to a complete beginner, however advanced dog trainers and anyone expecting John's expert advice on the matter are barking up the wrong tree with this one.

My advice: take it to the back garden and bury it!

I bought this dvd for my son to see how to train a dog, but as a professional instructor it did not give me anything new and just dwelt on puppies. I am disabled so am unable to give my son any practical training and I thought this dvd would answer the problem but it doesn't.

The John Fisher Way dog training

Having read Think Dog (Bible for any dog owner) I have never been disappointed with any book dvd etc. by John Fisher. There is always something to be learned and reminded about. Caesar Millan is excellent but he is reflecting basically what John Fisher was saying a dozen years ago. Such a great loss that he is now dead.
