Top Reviews 4 of 5 people found this review helpful. A disc that features three more superb episodes from David Tennant's first series in the TARDIS, this DVD finds Doctor Who facing one of his deadliest opponents--the Cybermen. The lethal foes are brought back to life in the first two episodes on this disc, Rise Of The Cybermen and The Age Of Steel. They find the Doctor, Rose and Mickey in an alternative version of Earth, where zeppelins dominate the London skyline and Roger Lloyd Pack's maniac genius is hard at work on an enhanced version of humankind. Ruthlessly harvesting humans, his work is soon revealed as the all-new Cybermen, who are as fatal as ever. And while the two-part story may cut the odd corner here and there, it's nonetheless a triumphant return in an action-packed, tightly scripted story. However, the real treat on the disc is the lower profile episode, The Idiot's Lantern. Set at the time of Elizabeth II's coronation, the Doctor and Rose find a shop offering strangely low cost television sets, and people worried by rumours of strange goings in. Buoyed by a guest appearance by Maureen Lipman, this is yet another highpoint for an increasingly confident series, by turns clever, sinister and intriguing. In short, the best disc yet of episodes from the second new series of Doctor Who. And there's the promise of even better around the corner Review ID: 10000000001673351 Was this review helpful? Report this review Reviews This is just the way to get what you want when you want it at a price you can afford without being ripped off by retail mark-ups. Love it! I am collecting the whole series and Ebay is the only way to afford it. As a Whovian (The correct technical term!!) since the year dot, now its MY time to indulge my passion for the Sci Fi, the Alien Fighting and ... the greatest innovation of the 21st Century Whovian Experience ... having a Doctor who is just drop dead gorgeous! Excellent stories on this DVD, including The Idiot's Landing since its use of vintage kit from the BBC Archives is just spot on. Nice to see the Beeb using our licence fees usefully! Report this review Review created: 09/06/08 by: I grew up with Dr who. and like most people of a certain age were wary of different writers and actors invaiding there Dr Who memorys and teratory. But although Tom Baker was and always will be the best Dr who ever [in my apinion]David tenant comes a very close second. He is a brilliant actor his comic timing is perfect and his acting range is great. This series and others are just as Dr Who should be. Scary for the kids. comical and interresting for the adults and i think it been a very long time that anything has come out on tv or dvd that the whole family can sit down to and really enjoy.Thank goodness for Russell T Davies and his pals at the BBC. And thankyou Review ID: 10000000007508201 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
