Stuntman Mike played by always reliable Kurt Russel gets his kicks by stalking groups of foxy chicks and ending their lives at speed with his 'death proofed' vintage automobile.
Cut to 14 months later,a different state,a different set of targets and an altogether different approach.
This time round the girls are tough and fiercely independent.
Unfortunately this second segment is more anemic than the first one.
However the last twenty minutes are worth checking out for the fans of tire squealing and burnt rubber.
The final car chase is simply incredible and adrenaline filled.
In the prolonged chase sequence through deserted roads Tarantino expertly captures the raw cinema of the 70s.

"Planet Terror" is more fast-paced and a lot more gorier, but who cares.

"Death Proof" will bring the smile on the face of any self-respecting road movie enthusiast.

  Not the best Tarantino movie.

Not the best Tarantino movie. Too long. Too much blathering Tarantino dialogue for a large cast who, for the most part, are not experienced enough to pump enough sparkle into it. There is a sudden disconnect from the (slightly colourless) characters at the midway mark where the plot trips over itself and hurls the audience too far back up the beach. The big car chase at the end feels somewhat contrived but is okay.

The Robert Rodriguez offering Planet Terror (the other movie in this Grindhouse double-feature) is a much more incisive and effective satire of schlock cinema. Smarter, funnier and better played.

  Death Proof review
Review created: 21/08/09

Having seen the trailer i had to get this film, the movie starts a bit slowly for the 1st half an hour but once the high speed action starts, it develops into an exhilarating movie, featuring some great stunts and an 18 minute american muscle car duel, Kurt Russell puts in a excellent performance behind the the wheel of his 'death proof' car as a sociopathic stuntman stalking young ladies, an entertaining movie as you would expect been directed by Quentin Tarantino.

the typical tarrantino twist and turns some quiet predictable few not so. great fan of the tarrantino film library though would like to see him take on more challenging project like one of the moorcock books elric or hawkmoon as i believe like jackson did for tolken he could better with his modern dynamic way of approaching direction.

One of Tarantino's best pieces of work to date. It takes a while to get into but once you've seen it a couple of times - there's no lookin back.
