The Day The Earth Stood Still (DVD)

Slow, tedius, poor special effects, wooden acting. Watch the original, it's much better for such an old film.

Its fairly simple. You either like SciFi or you don't.

If, like me you love it then.... you will also see that the wonderful Keanu Reeves is a disappointment in this role and, in my opinion, missed a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to make his part in this classic SciFi film absolutely memorable. Thats what should have happened. However, I feel his performance was misguided and he might well have been better advised to minimise the sombre alien character and, instead, show more of his own personality to liven the alien character up. It doesn't really matter that an alien would not be that human..... I just wanted to get off the treadmill of life for a while and be.......... "transported". Keanu Reeves of old, ref Matrix etc...... is good at making you feel that way isn't he ?

Worse, for me, by far was GORT. If anyone ever saw the original 1955 film.... you would have to agree that whilst the modern GORT was projected as "the real deal" his personality again, other than in moments here and there, did not come through as the absolutely powerful and devastating protector of both heaven and earth. The modern GORT gave me a "taster" alone. In direct comparison, the 1955 GORT won my mind, heart and soul over. Shame, I hoped for so much more...

After saying all that, I did watch it again a few days later and felt better about both K.R. and GORT then BUT.... on the whole.... not as "believable" as the original.

i was expected to see more of a dramatic action, but there was non.overall i would say average, saved money from going to the cinema.

a most disappointing remake of what was a sci-fi classic. why did they bother if they could not make a half decent job ? special effects were good,but the film itself was just a pale attempt to follow the original story,but failed. if you want to see "the day the eaarth stood still" see the original !

I saw the advert on the T.V and when I went to buy from the shop I found it to be very exspencive, so i looked on Ebay and found it less than half price so after winning thje item , and reveiwing it ,I found that it was an exciting film to watch it had a plot a middle and a brilliant ending , most enjoying to watch and have convesation about it afterwards

I bought the original DVD and have watched many times as it was a classic, I must admit that on most remakes usually they tend to fall down, but on this one I was gripped and couldn't take my eyes off, I will definately be watching it again very soon, it is a cracking remake and deserves 5 stars for effects /acting, and consistency really a great Sci-Fi movie.

This is a really good film and also very interesting, Its well made with great effects, Well worth the money.

excellent special effects and keanu reeves at his emotionless best, well worth a watch. GORT is awsome to.

This is an excellent remake of a classic film.. Highly recommended.

The special effects were fantastic and the acting was exteremley good.
