If you love 50's rock n roll and 60's music then this is a must have DVD for you.........THEN.....add the unmistakeable talent of David Essex on top of that and you have 3+ hours of perfect viewing. Both films are filled with songs from the past that will have you singing along and tapping your feet. A pair of great classic Rock n Roll films showing the rise and fall of a fictional rock star. Well worth buying !!

  old classics
Review created: 09/05/07

Something was said and it triggered my hunt for an old video of the same double bill. After a week of leaving no stone unturned i realized that i had lost it forever, i craved a re screening of it as it was so long since i had seen it, so where else but ebay would it be instantly obtainable?
These films were made in the 70s and are pretty much to the point, although at the time the films did'nt contain any real famous actors they stared budding stars and already famous names not known for acting like Ringo Star,Adam Faith,Billy Fury and Keith Moon who did a fine job of looking after the star of both films David Essex...enter Larry Hagman of the not yet screened Dallas and you have a real good recipe for a box office hit. Both films track the rise and fall of Jim MacLaine, who moves from one side show to another doing summer slots at holiday camps dreaming of the day he will be famous, "That'll be the day" sort of leaves you hangin on a thread and "Stardust" takes up where the thead nearly ends and you find our jim on tour with the stray cats (Paul Nicholas,Keith Moon,Dave Edmunds and Karl Howman) enjoying gigs and groupies and an idilic life, but he craves more and soon, after old friends pull in favours for him, The Stray Cats rocket to fame. The pressures and stresses of being a rock star are'nt all they were made out to be and the sweet taste of success begins to turn sour, enter drugs boredom and loneliness and a sickening end brings this double bill to a close with the unforgetable last words from Adam Faith telling jim he cant die because he owns half of him. Although i have seen these films a hundred times i still enjoy them every time i see them.

That'll Be The Day / Stardust
Review created: 07/04/07

That'll be the day is an excellent film starring David Essex,Robert Lindsay,
Keith Moon, Ringo Starr and The Late Great Billy Fury.
The film starts off where Jim MacLaine (David Essex)is at school and is bored with it.
His mother runs the shop after his dad left them as he couldn't stand the monotony of the shop.
Jim helps his mother in the shop at times.
On the Monday morning Jim is meant to be going to school and throws his books into the river.
He then goes and gets his things from his home and leaves.
Jim sells deckchairs on the Isle Of Wight and his mother arrives and asks for a deckchair she then asks him what he thinks he is doing.
Jim doesn't say much to her and she gives him some money as it is his birthday.
Jim then works as a waiter in a holiday camp and there he meets Mike (Ringo Starr)who helps him.
Jim soon gets to know the girls and before long is getting into a lot of girls.
Mike and Jim join a fair and that is when problems start for Mike who gets badly beaten up and Jim heads for home and helps his mother with the shop.
He meets his wife and gets married, but it isn't long before he meets up with his old mates who are in a band and it is then he decides to leave his wife and son and goes off to join the band.

I was only 13 years old when these films were at the pictures and didnt quite look old enough to see them so I had to wait till they were on tv! Here I am years later and I am still a huge fan of David Essex.Fabulous films- great stories and excellent rock 'n roll music throughout in the background. A great find on ebay!
