Album Notes This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD Players. All tracks were re-mixed in 5.1 Surround sound from the original 16-track master tapes.Includes new artwork and a new booklet by original designer Storm Thorgerson.Pink Floyd: David Gilmour (vocals, guitar, VCS3 synthesizer); Roger Waters (vocals, VCS3 synthesizer, bass, sound effects); Richard Wright (keyboards, VCS3 synthesizer, background vocals); Nick Mason (drums, percussion, sound effects).Additional personnel: Clare Torry (vocals); Dick Parry (saxophone); Doris Troy, Leslie Duncan, Liza Strike, Barry St. John (background vocals).Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, England between June 1972 & January 1973.DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film "Zabriskie Point," a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us And Them" (originally titled "The Violence Sequence"). Waters rewrote "Breathe" after its appearance on his and avant-garde composer Ron Geesin's score for "The Body," a surreal medical documentary.Floyd and their long-time engineer, Alan Parsons, used a multitude of sound effects--from stereophonically-projected footsteps and planes flying overhead ("On The Run") to a roomful of ringing clocks ("Time"). Further adding to the record's mystique, barely audible spoken passages were sprinkled throughout--a result of hours interviewing random Abbey Road occupants about their views on insanity, violence and death. Floyd must have struck a nerve; DARK SIDE OF THE MOON remained on Billboard's albums chart for an astounding fourteen years. It made Pink Floyd a household name, elevating them to the level of the Rolling Stones and The Who in the rock pantheon. Reviews 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. Certainly one them anyway. Unless you have been living in a cave for the last forty years then you will be well aware of this great work. Although containing some sublime tracks in there own right, you really should listen to the album as a complete work. Pour yourself a large glass of whatever takes your fancy, slip on a comfortable pair of headphones, recline somewhere cosy and go on a journey of mind arousing wonder. I think what really makes this album shine is that it has come from the collective minds of the entire band, with all four making a compositional contribution. Musically it is enriched with some great additional vocals from the likes of Doris Troy, Leslie Duncan, Liza Strike and Barry St John, and notably the mind blowing vocal from Clare Torry on 'The Great Gig in the Sky'. Add to this the ripping saxophone from Dick Parry and you have the perfect cocktail Even if you have just left that cave we mentioned earlier and the words Pink and Floyd are strangers to you, buy this album and see what you have been missing. One the other hand if you are like me, and have nearly all of Pink Floyd's discography on vinyl, then treat yourself to some new CDs and make this one first on your shopping list, you will not be disappointed. Decent repackaging for Floyd fans, but bought for the SACD presentation, and if you have the right equipment will bring new joy to the piece. Please check out Dub Side of the Moon for a great reggae version of the whole album! Review ID: 10000000006426832 Was this review helpful? Report this review If you were a fan of Pink Floyd during the 70's and owned the original Dark Side of the Moon, then you will love this. The remastered CD still has the magic of the original vinyl record but with so much more clarity and sound quality. The SACD plays perfectly on any standard CD player and I would imagine is 'something else' on a SACD dedicated player. Review ID: 10000000005828094 Was this review helpful?
