Album Notes HIM (Goth): Ville Valo (vocals); Linde (guitar); Burton (keyboards); Mige (bass guitar); Gas (drums).DARK LIGHT's polished production probably has Finnish Goth-rock outfit HIM's like-minded countrymen spinning in their daytime coffins. While their peers tend to indulge in more earthy (not to say deafening) music-making methods, HIM's pristine washes of keyboards sound dangerously sunny on the sparkling "Wings of a Butterfly," while the gorgeously romantic title track wouldn't sound out of place on an old episode of BUFFY. Glossy and user-friendly, HIM are the gentler (if not kinder) side of devil worship. | |||||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 03/08/08 by: The title Dark Light is a classic example of Goth Metal. With Gothic bands such as The Cure, jolly songs can contain morbid lyrics without contradiction and this album demonstrates that conceipt with titles such as Rip Out The Wings Of A Butterfly. For those new to Gothic music, I would compare the joy I get from listening to this album with watching a Tim Burton film, ie there is beauty within the sadness. Although I like this album very much, I do not class it as excellent, simply because the early tracks are stonger than the later ones. However, I think this band will become one of the all time greats. There is a lot of meaning in Valo's lyrics and no swearing enables the band to appeal to a wide audience. The music is technically and melodically superb - I can't see how anyone could dislike it. I bought this album after And Love Said No expecting it to be harder. I felt secure as the seller had a high feedback score over several years eBay service. The price was also very reasonable. Review ID: 10000000008172652 Was this review helpful? I bought this CD a week before going to see HIM in concert, I learnt every word to every song and was not disappointed when with Ville's amazing lyrics. This has got to be there best album to date, keeping the same 'light metal' sound each song is better then the last, I can hardly choose my favourite!
