Album Notes
It's hard to believe, given his gargantuan impact on popular culture, that Eminem had only released four full-length albums by 2004. That year's ENCORE showed the rapper's artistic vitality fading just a bit, but 2005's CURTAIN CALL, an overdue greatest-hits collection, helps remind audiences that Eminem produced a stunning string of singles in a short span of time. Naturally, CURTAIN CALL eschews the artist's most controversial material ("'97 Bonnie and Clyde," for example, from THE SLIM SHADY LP), focusing instead on his highest charters, like 8 MILE's "Lose Yourself" and introspective confessionals like "Cleanin' Out My Closet" (a rant against his mother) and "Mockingbird" (a tribute to his daughter). But even at his most sentimental and dramatic, Eminem displays a level of artistry that surpasses nearly anyone in hip-hop, if not pop music in general. Satirical, vicious, funny, and energizing, Eminem's material is never less than absorbing. CURTAIN CALL is packed wall-to-wall with winners (except maybe "Sing For the Moment," which reworks Aerosmith's "Dream On" in tiresome fashion), and at its most brilliant (like the self-reflexive romps "The Real Slim Shady" and "Stan") it's as era-defining as anything by N.W.A, Public Enemy, or even Bob Dylan. Though his individual albums are all pretty essential, CURTAIN CALL provides a valuable overview of an artist whose skills are unassailable, and whose role as a social gadfly remains as complex as ever.

Editorial Reviews
This hits package captures the half-decade moment when the tortured Detroit MC ruled the zeitgeist with whip-smart gross-out humor and jolting family confessions. -- Grade: A-Uncut (p.86) - 4 stars out of 5 -- CURTAIN CALL sizzles with profane pop genius...

Eminem’s latest record out, 'Curtain Call', features many of this greatest tracks including:

Sing For The Moment
Lose Yourself
Just Lose It
Without Me
The Real Slim Shady
My Name Is
Mockingbird
Stan
Guilty Conscience
Cleanin' Out My Closet

Also included is 'When I'm Gone', a brilliant new track. Also features is a new version of ‘Stan’, which features Elton John, and which was recorded Live.

One track that I do not particularly like is 'Fack', its relatively short track, but poor compared to other tracks on the collection.

Following the usual Eminem tradition, the album starts with a strange introduction called 'intro', which will cause a few laughs.

If you are a fan of Eminem, and already have all four albums, I still urge you to buy this, simply for the bonus tracks, and also to complete the collection (unfortunately this is more than likely to be his last record).

If you want to get into Eminem, then this is a great record to start off with. It features popular, appealing classics such as ‘The Real Slim Shady’ and ‘Without Me’.

If you like rap music, then this is a great record to buy!

5 Out of 5 – Excellent

A.R.

\if this is really Marshal's last CD, then he couldn't have picked a better way to say goodbye, especially through the song 'When I'm gone', with a great mix of new and old songs he shows hes not just a rapper, but a great voaclist in many different types of music, as many songs ryme, but aren't rap. This is deffinately his best work and he seems to improve with time, it might have something to do with as time goes on he has more troubles to write about, I still think he has one last album to write, maybe a tribute to Proof R.I.P, maybe for Kim, or his mum, or maybe to say goodbye in a more oving and spectacular way that what he has hinted at in this last album, if you don't own this album, or even any Eminem album, this should be your fist purchase, a must own CD.

  Eminem - Curtain call

I bought the CD as a gift for my son. Big Mistake! There is a parental advisory warning on the cover but niavely I thought that it was for a bit of swearing. Fortunately I listened to it in the car before giving it to him.
The music is great, but the lyrics go way over the top. I can forgive some of the swearing but with some tracks it was seemed that there were no other words other than expletives. Others were plain disgusting. Even my 16 - 19 year old students thought some of the lyrics were over the top.
I thought recorded music was for the masses, it's a shame that artists as good as Eminem don't realise that children like their music and tone down. Good music and good lyrics sound as good without the F word every 5 seconds.
