Curb Your Enthusiasm - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2004)

I scored this box set for a very good price on eBay and I wasn't disappointed. Having only recently dicovered the Curb Your Enthusiasm series on More 4, I became immediately hooked. The type of comedy reminded me somewhat of The Office (UK Ricky Gervais version, not the US rehash), with cringe factor 10 situations, dry humour, no canned laughter track, sorry, I mean "live studio audience!". After a bit of internet research, I realised that I dicovered the series halfway through Season 4, and Season 5 is now showing. So I wanted to get in from the start. I knew I'd be able to rely on good old eBay to get what I wanted. I've now seen all episodes and all were hilarious without exception. I know I will watch these again too, as Larry David's attempts at accounting for his actions with his wife Cheryl are second to none. The underlying Jewish theme provides a great insight to a way of live I'd never have previously become aware of. The community, the traditions, the holidays, the way of life, and the way that Larry slips in and out of the faith to suit his needs all make for great comedy. If I had to make any criticism at all, and I should really to balance my review, I would have to say that I feel the Seinfeld connection is not used enough. It crops up ocassionally, but Seinfeld is the origin of Larry's wealth so I assumed it would be mentioned more. I can see why Larry wouldn't want to play on this too much, since he demands (and deserves) recognition for his own show. I think frequent mention of the Seinfeld connection would assist new viwers to the show in understanding the background. Regular viewers get rewarded with Larry's habits eg- his interogational stare down his nose and through his glasses at anyone he suspects of being conservative with the truth, his assessment of something he likes "Pretty Pretty Pretty Pretty Goooood" and his high pitched squaling when trying to get his point of view across. Great comedy, great characters, great show. If you haven't got it, get it. But don't come to me cos I aint selling it!!!

The series kicks off with Larry having a problem with the cut of his trousers. It turns into a real problem later.

Then he has a problem with a surly cinema goer. Which turns into a real problem later.

And he is asked to do a favour by his manager Jeff Greene - to act as "porn buddy" in the event of Jeff's untimely death. Larry tells him it has disaster writen all over it. And sure enough it does.

Curb is clever enough to dish out the ingredients for Larry's disasters to get you wondering, but you never know what the final dish is until it's served up and Larry suffers yet another humiliation or is left defending his actions one more excruciating time.

But what his friends and especially his screen wife Cheryl find is bizarre and unjustified behaviour, you'll find hilarious, and you'll learn a valuable lessson about what could happen if you say or do what you're really thinking.

I can't recommend this whole series enough, it's above excellent.

i love curb your enthusiasm, cant fault that. however it does say in title "Curb Your Enthusiasm - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2004)" but it was only disc one of the series so am not very happy about that.

So this was my first time on ebay and i have to say that everything went just great! It was shipped very quickly and it was brand new.

One of (if not) the best comedy shows ever made. Larry David constantly finding himself in the positions we find ourselves in every day, the only difference being that he'll challenge the unchallengeable and ask all the un-askable questions, usually to disastrously hilarious effect. Pure genius.

Gets more funnier and handsome with every episode of curb your enthusiasm I watch.. I couldn't possibly choose a favourite series, they are all fantastic. Larry is misunderstood and you can't help but feel hugely apathetic towards him. A good purchase.

Slow moving slice of a rich, semi famous american bloke's bonkers life. This programme doesn't get out of breath forcing you to laugh, but neatly ties seemingly unrelated, meandering occurrences within the life of Larry David. Usually through no fault of his own, he finds himself in social holes he can only dig himself out of. Quite dry, refreshingly quiet, 100% funny, going to buy all the others.

Great series, which I missed some episodes of the first time round. Good to have the whole set now on DVD.
