The Company Of Wolves (DVD)

If you were getting born sometime in the last twenty years, you might not have noticed this film. You might think that any film as old, or older, than you, is bound to be no good.
Think again!
This film had ground-breaking special effects when it was made and the gritty 'reality' of them knocks spots off the C.G.I. of today!! Beautifully dressed sets and superb acting make this a very atmospheric take on 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
A cautionery tale for growing girls; it covers sexuallity, virginity (whether one should loose this before or after marriage!), trust (who you can, who you can't) and consequences, all played out in a spellbinding dream world where nothing is quite what it first appears to be.
A wonderful piece of escapism that, unlike a lot of eighties things, hasn't aged a day!

A series of adult fairytales with sexual undertones that grip you. Beautifully filmed and amazingly written by Angela Lansbury.

Firstly i bought the special edition, which comes in a tin cover which is beautiful, it has a full guide to everything you would want to know about the film, it's stars and werewolves in general.
The film is timeless, i remember watching it as a teenager (which is why i wanted to buy it) and it took me right back to that time.
Although the special effects are nothing compared to the epic films these days, i think anyone would appreciate how good it is for the time it was made.
The film is eccentric and the acting is high standard.
All true horror fans or children of the 80's will love it.

This film, although is not a mainstream film, has to be one of the best films ever made.
Based on the short story by Angela Carter; this film is a retelling of the classic children's story Little Red Riding Hood but without the sugar-coating.
Brilliant film and a must see for any film lover.

I bought The company of Wolves for my husband and I haven't seen it personally, so I cannot review at this time.

The Company of Wolves is a beautifully crafted fantasy fairytale of a film. The obvious parallel is with the little red riding hood story, but it owes much to the story-telling of the Grimm brothers and has a sinister underlying gothic 'blackness' to it, combined with tongue in cheek humour to not let it get too 'arty'.

The film is shot with the most gorgeous colour - muted and yet strangely rich; fantastic imagery and great set design.

When all is said and done, you just can't help feel sorry for the wolf, even though you know you shouldn't.

Obviously, it's about coming of age and all the cautionary tales of being good and staying on the right track in life - it's just that the right track isn't always the one you think it is...

My favourite film ever - cult viewing. A sensual version of little red riding hood with many meanings hidden and suggested. The settings and scenery are beautiful. Slightly gory but not more than any werewolf film. This dvd had a metal container too - which makes it really special but not silly.
