Britain in the 1980s was still wallowing in the post-Python era, Morecambe and Wise were still churning out the same routines they had 20 years earlier (and we were still laughing), and a succession of predictable sitcoms followed the well-trodden path to success. Then the bomb of the opening sequence dropped on The Comic Strip Presents. We were introduced to the unique talents of a bunch of writers and thespians who a decade later would no longer be the upstarts, but as much the establishment as those they had dared to challenge when they first burst on the scene.

The talents of Mayall and Edmondson, French and Saunders, Planer and Sayle, Coltrane and Richardson are evidenced in a stream of new material alongside anarchic send-ups of such extremes as the Famous Five and Spaghetti Westerns, featuring half-hour gems such as Eddie Monsoon: A Life? up to the full length movie The Supergrass. From it's humble and daring beginnings in the 1980s this boxed set follows their talents into the 21st century. Here we have 9 DVDs totalling more than 26 hours of undiluted comedy genius.

Buy it, you won't regret it.

Comic Strip - Complete (DVD 2005)
Review created: 16/02/09

You'll either love parts of this nostalgic series, or hate it. Hasn't endured the test of time very well, but the flashes of inspiration still bring occasional laughs. Some cringing moments and substandard episodes though.

The Comic Strip Presents The Complete Collection
Review created: 09/10/07

The cast includes a stellar line up of 80's alternative comidiens including Rick & Ade, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Keith Allen and Alexei Sayle. The box set is huge and impressive, all 39 episodes including documentaries and the origional comic strip line up live at Londons Raymond Revue bar, covering nine discs this currently deleted box set is a must buy for all fans of the 'alternative' genre. Regards Matthew Stephenson. Scunthorpe.

  Comic Strip Presents dvds
Review created: 11/06/07

I wanted at least the first series of these because I had such good memories of seeing them, from 20 or so years ago. I was certainly not disappointed. They were as good as I remember, and there are some real classics, such as 'Five go Mad in Dorset/on Mesculin, The Yob, and The Bad News Tour (to which I'm sure 'This is Spinal Tap' is a homage).

They are slightly dated, (or maybe I have), but they still stand really well, even to people who don't know anything of this series.

Review created: 16/01/07

The Comic Strip Gang have finally brought out their complete series on dvd with 9 dics full of different stories, characters and episodes that vary. Without a doubt the best episodes in the box set are The Bad News Tour and A Fist Full Of Travellers Cheques. But the box is defeinatly worth buying at ebays cheep price.
