| Description Based on the novel by Charles Frazier, this drama tells the story of a couple who are in love but are separated by the American Civil War. Ada is left to cope with life in the wilderness. Following the death of her father and her lover's absence she is saved by the arrival of Ruby, a traveller. Rene Zelwegge was particularly magnificent, she seemed made for the part of Ruby, whereas although Jude Law and Nicole Kidman's acting was superb, they didn't feel quite right for the characters from the book. A minor criticism as it was a truly great film. We bought this to consolidate my daughter's learning for her AS level, and because we had both read the book.
