Cobra MT500 (2 Pack) (8 Channels) Two Way Radio

I like how easy & simple they are to use good quality sound both ways only down side i have found testing these two way radios is that lots of other users can hear & talk to you but that's easy fixed just swap channel to another. on a positive point they would be ideal for children on a school outing to keep in touch with the adults or even out & about in a nature park also would be great for disabled people to keep in touch/chat with there carer & local friends. :)

Bought these specifically for a canal holiday where there are narrow sections that it is useful to know if it is clear before entering (by the time someone has gone ahead to check and come back, another boat could have appeared from the opposite end) and also for communicating from one end of the 70ft boat to the other.
Tested range about a quarter of a mile - reception gets a bit fuzzy above that.
Quite sturdy units, very simple to use.

Bought to go with Midland G5 PMR radios, these are fully compatible, down to the privacy feature. I rate them more than the Midlands, because of the following features

Rechargeable AAA batteries can be replaced with normal AAA if you don't want to lug the recharging station

The recharging station makes it easy - the Midlands use a small jack plug which I'm always worried about knocking when the G5s are on the bench charging

The handset is a little larger than the Midlands - so a little easier for my adult male hands.

You can "lock" the handset - more than once I've knocked off the set channel when pocketing the G5s - something you can avoid with the Cobra

The 'Call' feature could get annoying, but could be useful in a noisy environment.

Overall I'm very happy with the Cobra radios, and think they are very good value for money.
