Closer (DVD)

Full of stunted dialogue with a not very plausible story line. Still wondering how Julia Roberts got mixed up with what is definitely a B movie and very much a waste of her talent. Not sure if it was made 'tongue in cheeek'. Did'nt think much of the supporting caste either

There were times when the characters lack any kind of depth and when the acting was suspended and replaced with dialogue.
So I suppose it might have worked on stage, but it was such a waste of a good idea and much potential, let drip away.
So what was wrong with it? perhaps the fact that the script was written by a man? His female characters were empty beyond words. No motivation, no reason for their actions/reactions. perhaps that is the way men see women?
But Clive Owen was sizzling as the caveman, absolutely penetrating in his dialogues.
I came a way thinking: this could have been a realy great film.

This movie is in essence about the lives of cosmopolitan londoners in the notties decade. You actually get to see London more than anything else as well... the red double decker buses, the black cabs and the thames river bank pleasures, its all here, and all the while the movie takes you through the amazing love lives of the 4 characters where at some point in their life love, jealousy, betrayal and hurt can all come at the same time and be a part of the same event. A truly modern love story but with some great wise cracks.

Closer is an excellent film with an all star cast. It takes a good look at modern relationships and is very clever the way it tells a story. It can be confusing in place but is an excellent and well acted film.

i bought this film as im a big clive owen fan.i thought this was an excellant film.the storyline was good,the acting was good and the whole thing of 4 strangers meeting and switching partners etc was quite funny.im not sure if it was suppossed to be a comedy type film but there are some funny moments.clive looks fantastic,if your a clive fan by the way.the other 3 im not a fan of as actors and actresses but the acting was good.i would recommend this film.sit down with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy.brilliant.

I decided to buy this after having spoken to a friend whom highly recommended it. I wasn't disappointed with the film and the acting was brilliant. It isn't however a happy upbeat film so if its cheering up your after this isn't the one for you! All in all I'd recommend it to anyone who wants an insight to affairs and relationships.

not for some people but i love this film, its just about the intertwining lives of 4 people and how love, lust and life can turn the most basic people into complex characters.

I bought it since I saw it already in the cinema, I knew what I'm buying. And I'm buying a good film, full of tension.

I love Julia Roberts and I love Clive Owen, but why they had to waste their talent in this movie I will never know. It just did not work, the language was foul, the f word totally over used and as one reviewer has said, there was a time when I had never seen this film...those were the days. I actually binned it! The only bit that worked for me was when Alice Ayres handed in her passport at the end, but it did leave me feeling what on earh was the point, I mean, REALLY?!!!!!

I saw this film about a year ago on tv, I thought it was really good how the film developed from a couple meeting to two couples becoming mixed up.
Has some really funny parts and some serious ones.
My favourite actor Clive Owen is in it so I had to watch it and he aswell as the other actors play the roles very well in my opinion.

I don't know what I was expecting,.....soemething alomg the lines of Love Actually perhaps? It has a great cast and is supposed to be an examination of the modern relationship....call me old fashioned, but this I do not belive is typical of the young relationship.
For a start off they are not that young!! And the relationships between the 4 of them lack depth or reason.....its seems totally shallow and it doesn't work.

The whole set up is taudry and not at all believable...and its not the acting, its the script. It was not romantic....and there is no sex......so what was it exactly? What genre does it fall into?

The characters show a promise of a morality, a principle and a rationale in the way relationships are conducted, but in fact underlying the relationships are characters that are weak self indulgent, shallow, insensitive and trite.

If I've missed anything profound then do let me know!!

This is a really bad film. Looking at the cast you would expect this to be well written and directed. However, prepare yourself for the most boring and disappointing 2 hours of your life. The film starts quite well... then 20 minutes in it plummets into a nose dive that it just can't pull out of. One for the 10pence bargain bucket in service stations!

I bought this as a christmas present, the person I bought it for
had it on a xmas list so wanted it and had seen it before and obviously
liked it, although they did say the ending could have been better.
