Kevin Smith's breakthrough movie was pure GENIUS ... based around a day in the life of a convenience store clerk who gets called in on his day off and his buddy who works next door.

'I'm not supposed to be here today' !!!

Filmed on a budget in arthouse style black and white "Clerks" is a movie that deals with so many issues, ideas and concepts in a very realistic and everyday way. Dante and Randal comes face to face with customers, friends and locals but when the ex-girlfriend makes an appearance the humour level is cranked to the max !!! With an appearance from cult heroes Jay and Silent Bob too this is a highly watchable movie ... as are all of Kevin Smith's movies !!!

When I recommend this film to people they always ask 'so what happens?' The answer has to be 'not a lot but it's hilarious!' It took me a while to get around to watching it for that very reason. I'd heard of it and that it was 'cult' 'classic' etc but never got around to seeing it. I watched it for the first time about a month ago, I've seen it 4 times now, it's that good!
Based around a day in the life of a convenience store clerk who gets called in on his day off 'I'm not supposed to be here today' and his buddy who works next door. Girlfriends, ex girlfriends, customers, neighbourhood freaks, ex school mates all turn up at some point and add to the general melee.

My favourite bit, well I'll let you find out when you see the film, it involves the ex, and watch out for the 'Star Wars' conversation, brilliant! Jay and Silent Bob pop up and entertain from time to time with wacky dancing, hypocrasy and general nuttiness.

Filmed in black and white and completely dialogue and character driven this movie manages to prove once again that you don't need 10 figure cash sums to make great movies.

Even though this movie is in black and white and a low budget kevin smith still manages to make it an excellent movie with the hilarious characters jay and silent bob. The film is a little boring as it is basically all filmed in a shop but there are still some great funny bits and if u like kevin smith u gotta own this dvd. Clerks x come out resently selebrating 10 years of the film and its a 3 disc set!

Clerks the movie which launched Kevin Smith as a director and introduced the world to Jay and Silent Bob. The movie is dark and decidely sexual yet hilarious and thought provoking. I have not seen such a well scripted and well shot movie since. This the tenth anniversary edition contains everything you could possibly want to know about the movie or its cast and crew. To all of you out there who watched Clerks ten years ago please re-visit it and to all of you who haven't please watch it. it will introduce you to a whole new genre, one you must experience before you die of boredom in your job. to all who work within four walls day in day out salvation comes in the form of Clerks it will make you re-evaluate. snoochies!

funny film from Mr. K Smith
Review created: 14/03/08

I like jay and silent bob the most, I love the 37 thing in a row part and there's nothing I dislike about it apart from it being in black and white throughout but it doesn't bother me that much now. I decided to buy because of all the reasons I just said!!! thanks Dave!

Clerks - Kevin Smith bursts onto the movie scene....
Review created: 20/02/07

One of the greatest stories of indie cinema, Kevin Smith maxed out credit cards, sold his comics and cast friends and amateurs to make this film for about £20,000, going on to gross several million and make 6 more films, the latest being Clerks II.

This film has pure heart, real and witty dialogue and there is a certain charm to be had from the grainy black and white photography. Funny how a group of lads and ladies in their early 20s created something far more intelligent and funny than any multi-million creation from the Wayans Brothers.

  Clerks--Worth Viewing
Review created: 08/12/06

Fantastic enthusiasm, it's refreshing to watch a film that illustrates young people experiementing and doing something they love doing. These guys were having fun when they made the film and it shows, and that's what makes the experience of watching it so great. I was introduced to Jay & Silent Bob in "Dogma" who pretty much stole that film in my opinion because they are such sideways characters...refreshing, rather than the certain set characters in most movies. So I went looking for what else they'd done & was charmed by the investigation of how this series of films came to be. So I bought it on the off chance that I'd like it. I know have all the Smith films and in my opinion it's been worth the spend, they just inspire me to laugh and to me that's money well spent. If you like one of their films, you'll probably like this one.

Well what can I say, Kevin Smith is a legend. It is unbelievable how he made this movie so great with so little budget. One of my most favourite movies ever. You really do have to watch it over and over again because you may miss parts because of frequent laughter throughout the movie. 5/5 !!!
