  The Chorus
Review created: 04/06/09

This is a fantastic French movie with English subtitles. The singing is truly magnificent. I decided to buy this film as I work in a school and the French teacher let the boys watch this. I thought I would like to have a copy of my own and watch it in the comfort of my own home. I would recommend this film.

  Great Film

Why can we not make such films in UK?
The last UK film that can compare is Cider with Rosie.
Superb acting in a an oppressive setting of a chateau schoold for delinquents.
Uplifting and sad as we follow the efforts of Clement Mathieu (Gerard Jugnot)through his travails in teaching singing to a hard boiled group of schoolchildren in an oppressive regime run by tyrannical incompetent.
Tragic twists and turns follow his moves to accomplish his aim and I am sure a sequel could be done to follow his further teaching career
Every British schoolteacher should see this even if only as a reminder that music, like sport, should be compulsory in our schools.

MUSIC TEACHER HELPS BAD BORSTAL BOYS: A+++
Review created: 04/06/06

Although this is essentially a French film with English sub-titles, and I usually have no patience for that ... this one's different ... very well worth watching. The story of a marvellous Music Teacher who tackles all the very delinquent children in a borstal school, showing them how to be accepted in society - and life - via their music. Funny bits. Sad bits. Mostly good bits. Uplifting film and makes you go away with a song in your heart and head. Highly recommend to - teenagers who are wondering what it's all about - adults who have teenagers who wonder what it's all about!
