Reviews  chinatown Probably director Roman Polanskis most straightforward film and I think one of his best. Features Jack Nicholson at his most excellent as a private detective taking on an investigation that gets out of control. Polanski orchestrates a stark awareness of the murky side of human nature with the kind of insight that one feels can only have come from personal experience.
