Remakes - Good or Bad Idea?

As a child of the 80's I grew up watching and re-watching Gene Wilder in the original film based on Roald Dahl's book. But as an adult and a fan of the gorgeous Johnny Depp I felt I had to see the newer and more accurate version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. At first I found it hard going after all the bright colours and lively songs of the original, but as the film went I on I grew more and more involved and found that it was very close to how Roald Dahl originally wrote the story. Johnny Depp portrays Willy Wonka in such a way that he does seem rather frightening. A very good film in its own right, but worth seeing Gene Wilder's portrayal too. I loved it but my kids said "I think the old one was better". But that has something to do with the Oompa Loompa's I think!!!
