Cats And Dogs (DVD 2001)

watched it a few times and has jokes all the way though gives a good laugh. Love 'em or hate 'em, our favourite pets are actually fighting a war for domination of Earth. Well, the cats are anyway and their leader Mr Tinkles (Sean Hayes) is evil enough to put his feline mates back on top of humans - as they were in the ancient times.

Standing in their way are dogs, the loyal friends and protectors of people. A top-secret canine intelligence agency is protecting a scientist (Jeff Goldblum) who is nearing the end of a project to develop an anti dog-allergy drug.

This, of course, is opposed by the cats who send crack teams of martial arts exponents to stop the professor. The ninja cats and demolition teams trying to do away with the laboratory are exceptionally funny - and brilliantly done - and Mr Tinkles is a truly evil dude.

Getting in the way of his plans are the professor's wife (Elizabeth Perkins), son (Alexander Pollock) and mistakenly installed puppy Lou - for Loser - voiced by Tobey Maguire.

What follows is an at-times hilarious, battle of the house pets that really does have the fur flying in real life, animation and computer-generated imaging.

There are some very good names in the voices lineup - including Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire, Michael Clarke Duncan, Charlton Heston, Joe Pantoliano, Susan Sarandon, Sean Hayes and Jon Lovitz.

The DVD transfer is purrfect (sorry) and the sound is excellent, with first-class use of the surround speakers. Cats and Dogs is a terrific movie to sit down and enjoy with the little ones of all ages

my daughter loves this film. shes 4 years old.
im 24 and i like to sit down and watch it with her so its definetly a film for the family.

The story line is brilliant. cats against dogs.

the ninja cats are very funny.

theres comedy throughout so you will be laughing.

the white cat, forgot what his name his but his maid lol, when she puts outfits on him at the end > very very funny

i would definetly recommend this film for the family

the graphics are good too

I bought this dvd for my grandsons has they seen it on tv and realy enjoyed. I watched this dvd with my wife and grandsons and we enjoyed it together .a very good buy

Great film laughed all the way through it. Had to put our dog outside as she kept barking at the woofs and meows and us all laughing.

Would suggest that younger children are given a bit of an idea of what film is about i.e. world domination by cats, with dogs protecting the inventor of anti dog-allergy medicine.

This is a really good film for all the family. My 3 year old daughter watches it over and over again, both me and her Dad also enjoy it. And my childminders 10year old girl and 4 year old boy also love it. Well worth watching, especially for animal lovers.

I was so disapointed with this movie when we rented it shortly after its release.. you would expect it to be a movie for ALL AGES.. but it certainly IS NOT. it is very childish.. Perfect for children but if you are 15 and over AVOID seeing this movie. The humour is so childish it makes you cringe or sigh! Unfortunatly we were cought out on this one. Put it on got the kids though. they will love it. The animals arnt cute. and the whole movie is a waste of time. Terrible concept and useless storylines throughout. I dred the day we see a sequel.. But then again.. its been a while... and i dont think we will! Thankyou God!

great kids film, new dog moves into neighbourhood, cats and dogs enemies and funny enough spies. will keep the kids entertained for a 1hr or so...

I bought this as it was loaned to us by a friend and my two boys 2 and 4 loved it so much that I had to get it for them. Great story with some excellent stars as voices. Geff Goldblum gorgeous, as ever, playing a bit of a geek. Good funny story with cats trying to take over the world by making everyone allergic to dogs. Just a good all round family film that can be watched over and over again. There is always something new to notice and the characterisations are excellent.

I must admit that I felt that I had to own this DVD. My son's aged 6 and 4 years have watched this film a few times on the TV and so IT JUST HAD TO BE BROUGHT!!!
If you have kids that love cats or dogs for that matter it is entertaining and funny.. The white cat is lovely with his tabby side kick, both with cute squashed noses....They aim for world domination but are foiled by agents who are dogs... it really is a scream although on a basic level... can't wait for ours to arrive, hopefully before the weekend!!!

A good family film to watch with allthe family. My three year old really enjoyed the film and watches it over and over again.

i got this dvd for my daughter she had been after it for a while when i came she watched with a friend she says it was excelent and the price was very resonable i would buy again

This had great potential - a good plot, a really strong cast and a good opportunity for children and adult jokes alike. The plot delivers what it has - a little silly but quite clever in places - but the comedy is seriously lacking for adults. For children there are some fart jokes and plenty of cat and dog slapstick but there are almost no jokes for adults that other films such as Shrek and Toy Story had in spades.

Given the cast this is very surprising - Jon Lovitz is a great voice but is hardly used at all, the character of Mr Tinkles could have been a great Dr Evil character, but even he is wasted. This is a great shame as all good children's films need to have something for adults to enjoy again. The great cast (Maguire, Baldwin, Clarke Duncan, Sarandon, Pantoliano, Charlton Heston, Lovitz) is a good draw for adults but having almost nothing to deliver for them is a big disappointment. The only funny scenes are the ninja cats and a handful of others but mostly it's wasted. The human actors are bland - Goldblum playing a scatty scientist? Surely not! That'll really push his barriers.

Overall a disappointing film that'll please children but needed a lot more work to keep adults entertained.

I bought this for my neice and nephew - I've seen it before and they love it. It's so funny and there's humour for the adults and humour for the children.

A masterpiece!

This film was funny in places, but lost the childrens attention in the middle. we did enjoy it as a family but will not be rushing to watch it again for a while, in all it was abit average.

I watched this film with my grandchildren who are four and six,i thought it was a bit violent in some scenes,but they enjoyed it overall , but the film did state parent guide.
