As New York Gangster films go, there are many to choose from. The best ones are journeys following the development of individuals. Put simply, the ones to watch are 'Goodfellas', and this one - 'Casino'. Many simular characters, such as mini maniac Joe Pesci. Strong plot and viewpoints are on show, the struggle for respect and power, sex & violence. Brutal but deserved ending for Joe Pesci's character. Great and stylish film, buy it today. Now gett outta here!!!

  Casino
Review created: 14/09/08

Greed, deception, money, power, and murder occur between two mobster best friends and a trophy wife over a gambling empire.

This Martin Scorsese film depicts the Janus-like quality of Las Vegas--it has a glittering, glamorous face, as well as a brutal, cruel one. Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro, mobsters who move to Las Vegas to make their mark, live and work in this paradoxical world. Seen through their eyes, each as a foil to the other, the details of mob involvement in the casinos of the 1970's and '80's are revealed. Ace is the smooth operator of the Tangiers casino, while Nicky is his boyhood friend and tough strongman, robbing and shaking down the locals. However, they each have a tragic flaw--Ace falls in love with a hustler, Ginger, and Nicky falls into an ever-deepening spiral of drugs and violence.

Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, a mob-connected casino operator in Las Vegas, attempts a civilized lifestyle with his money-conditional wife, Ginger. Nicky Santoro, a boyhood friend of Ace and now a Made-Man of the Mafia, arrives in town with an ambitious agenda of his own that soon disrupts Ace's life. Before long, Ginger and her long-time leeching lover Lester, along with Nicky's mistakes, causing problems.

A Must See Film!

  One of the best!

One of Scorsese's best movies (again!), perfectly balanced between the three central characters, this movie compliments Goodfellas superbly. Joe Pesci is at his manic best again, and De Niro turns in a fantastic performance as always. Highly recommended!

A nice twin disc set of a classic timeless film.

Watched it recently, and whenever on the TV,

can't believe it's been missing from my DVD collection,

but not any longer.

Well, there's not much things to tell about it(considering this is an old movie) except the whole concept is just so perfect. Award winning classic with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone.. The Two Disc Edition is a recommended for the real enthusiasts.

  A Great Film
Review created: 06/03/07

I bought this film after a recommendation from a friend. It's a great film with great acting from Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone. It provides a great insight into Casinos and the Mafia.
The only downfall of the film is probably the length, 2 hours 51 minutes, but well worth a watch.

  Casino, a review

Casino has become something of a cult classic over the past 15 years or so, so much that it has become imortalised on a two disc special edition dvd collectors set. I watched this film for the first time a couple of months ago and i doubt that it is so much of a classic after all. Most of the film is shot through the eyes and voice of a narator instead of hearing the actual voices of the onscreen characters, each of the main characters (Deniro, peschi) take their turn at narating a section of the movie. There are several scenes of brutal violence which is probably the most exciting part of the movie and the only really interesting aspect of Casino. overall the movie is just short of being three hours long, which in my opinion drags on for far too long and would have been better as a two hour movie and would have been more entertaining. I would advise people who want to see this movie to rent it and watch it first before making the decision to buy it and then probably wishing they hadn't.
