Carter USM - 30 Something

Carter were one of the up and coming bands of the early 90's. Like so many they burned very brightly before disappearing into relative obscurity. 30 Something, their second album is probably their best. The songs on it are fast, loud and angry dealling with a range of social issues such as bullying in the army in the anthemic 'Bloodsports For All.' At the time they were described as the Pet Shop Boys on acid, that always struck me as about right. Clever songs that played with words, singing that sounded like they were anarling (maybe that's the strong southeast London accents) over a highly synthesised background tune and some incredibly loud guitar work. I look back at the album now with a fondness as middle age approaches, on a younger and more wild me, angry and a bit akward, it's a bit like this album.
