One of the modern CGI movies and it shows, the animation detail is incredible, I thoroughly enjoyed this film, the plot is obvious no surprise ending but I just loved the journey.

A couple of my friends thought it was PIXAR’s worst film and reading the reviews on various forums I have noted they are mixed. So you may wish to rent it before you buy it for your collection.

Plot Summary:

Lightning McQueen (Voiced by Owen Wilson) is a young, hotshot, bright red racing car.

Brash, arrogant and self-absorbed he alienates his crew getting to the top, in the last race of the season he is in a three-way tie.

Travelling to the last race he befalls a slight accident and ends up in a small town Radiator Springs having to do community service.

Watched over by the town Marshall Doc Hudson (Voiced by Paul Newman) who has a secret of his own.

After a rocky start Lightning starts to bond with the small town inhabitants and learns the value of friendship.

It’s a cliché story but well produced and I found it to be a very entertaing film, am sure the kids will love it.

It has received some negative reviews so you may want to check the film out yourself before buying

Disney Cars - A great film for all the family

Our little boy loves Disneys Cars. Its about Lightning McQueen - who is a famous self obsessed race car who finds himself in trouble in a little forgotten town called Radiator Springs. It has a wonderful story of a life journey with lessons to be learned, lots of humor and great animation. Owen Wilson is the voice of Lightning McQueen - but Paul Newman steals the show as Doc Hudson - an old racing car who lives in Radiator Springs.
The sound track is amazing as well. 5*****

My children absolutely adore watching this DVD. I have seen it over and over! The story of how a cocky rookie race car who has nearly made history by winning in his first year suddenly ends up lost without his team or his agent!! He learns what friends and trust is and helps out an entire run down town before being found. Back to his racing he actually finds he misses them but they all surprise him!

BUY IT!!!! A classic which even has adults laughing - one line in particular with Mater and the piston cup gets me every time!

Packed with extras such as deleted scenes and Mater & the Ghostlight and much more make this DVD un-put-downable!!!!

Cars
Directed by: John Lassater

I can remember it like it was yesterday. Me and the old man going to the cinema on a Sunday at 10.30 in the morning. Sitting down to see a new Disney film about an old fashioned cowboy doll and his attempt to get rid of a brand new flashy space ranger action figure with karate chop action. If you've been living under a rock for the past eleven years, the film I'm on about is Toy Story-a movie which gave introduction to Pixar and their astounding animation.

Since then we've seen the Pixar clan bring us bugs, more toys, monsters, talking fish and superheroes- each one a big hit. Now, Pixar have took to the road in the brand new film; Cars.

The film centres around Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), a new racing hot shot on the road to stardom, who is leaving his competitors in the dust. But like all rookies, McQueen's is forgetting that there is no 'I' in 'team' and is mainly looking at the fame and fortune of becoming a top class racer.

McQueen's ascending career is suddenly stopped when he hits a large bump. On his way to a major race, four chav-mobile's cause Mack; McQueen’s driver to steer of the road and have McQueen fall out the rear. Our four wheeled hero's search to get back to Mack ends in failure when he ends up in the run down town of Radiator Springs. With an entrance that doesn't go down too well with the townsfolk, McQueen gets clamped and can only leave the town when he's tarred the road he's messed up, which doesn't go down to well with the Lightning speedster.

As his visit to the forgotten town progresses, McQueen gradually begins to take a shine to the quaint little place and starts to see the world that he has since recently passed by.

Now you may have heard that this film is Pixar's plummet, the one hiccup in a line of successes-well trust me when I say this film is running on all cylinders.

Rather unsure about the idea of talking Cars, my opinion changed-oh about...5 seconds into the film. You completely fall into the world of verbal vehicles and see every one as a believable character. From the star, Lightning McQueen, to the small roles like the gentle giant Red, the sensitive flower watering fire engine, these motors have all got a spark that makes them as memorable as the rest.

Of course all this wouldn’t be possible without good voice talents under the hood. Not really being an Owen Wilson fan (Wedding Crashers aside) I was worried that he might be the downfall of the film-I was pleasantly surprised. The same can be said for all the other characters, Mater, voiced by Larry the Cable Guy (don't worry-I don’t know who he is either) delivers a huge amount of laughs. Prepare yourself for a gut buster when he and McQueen go 'tractor tipping' and also managing to pull off jokes that before now have seemed repetitive and predictable. It was also refreshing to hear the familiar voice of Paul Newman, who plays Doc- the mechanic of Radiator Springs who has a mysterious past. Also listen out for our own Jeremy Clarkson as McQueen's agent, and the now pixelated familiar John Ratzenberger.

The good marks don’t stop there though. With Pixar being well known for their amazing animation they have once again raised the bar with their beautiful landscapes in the Cars universe. Getting to the point where the rocky cliffs and long highways look so real-you forget you're watching a film about talking cars and all of it just seems normal.

This is a MUST for all the Kids!
Another Truly Great Action Packed Animated Film by Disney PIXAR.
Lightning McQueen lives life in the fast lane until he comes across the most popular race of his life. Along the way he meets Sally, Mater, Doc Hudson and Many more Vehicles who try hard to help McQueen understand that there is more to life than Trophies and Fame.
Thumbs Up for this Great Disney Film that can be bought so cheap now on eBay!
101% Recommended.

Review: Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is a cocky, rookie race car. Speeding on his way to a big race, he crashes into Radiator Springs, destroying lots of the inhabitants' belongings!

In order to make up for what he did, the raucous roadster is sentenced to community service. Though he will do anything to get away from the work, McQueen must learn to respect and bond with the Radiator Springs inhabitants in order to get out of the town and back on the racetrack...

After taking moviegoers magically into the realm of toys, bugs, monsters, fish, and superheroes, the masterful storytellers and technical wizards at Pixar Animation Studios (The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc.), and Academy Award-winning director John Lasseter (Toy Story, A Bug's Life), hit the road with a fast-paced comedy adventure set inside the world of cars. Fuelled with plenty of humour, action, heartfelt drama and amazing new technical feats, Cars is a high octane delight for moviegoers of all ages.

My Review: One of the best animated films made its brilliant my boys and myself loved it, we are unbeliavbly obsessed and can't stop watching it but im not suprised its a really good movie i like it too much it's worth a watch..

  Wonderful Film, Slightly Disappointing DVD
Review created: 06/05/07

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Cars is Pixar Animation Studio's seventh feature length film. While not the best Pixar film, it is still a big cut above other animated films released around the same time.

The Film - 4.5 out of 5

The film is the story of Lightning McQueen, an arrogant race car who, on his way to the last race of the season with a championship at stake, gets lost on Route 66 and encounters the citizens of Radiator Springs. The variety of characters there help Lightning to see that there's more to life than going fast and winning.

The primary flaw with Cars is its length. At just under two hours, the flow of the story can feel rather slow at times, making it slightly less suitable for younger children. If one can get past this, then it's not a problem, as there are still lots of funny jokes and moving moments.

The voice acting is superb. Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy and John Ratzenberger each provide a wonderful voice to their respective character. As a NASCAR-style race is prominent in the story, there are also cameos by such race stars as Dale Earnhardt Junior, Mario Andretti and Michael Schumacher.

The sound effects are also great, but the music is what I got most out of the film. The instrumental soundtrack was composed by Randy Newman, composer of Both Toy Stories, A Bug's Life and Monsters Inc. His music matches the intended emotion of every scene. Spread throughout the film are rock and country songs by such singers as Sheryl Crow and Brad Paisley, leaving Cars as the Pixar film with the most songs.

Which leaves only visuals. At the time of this review (May 2007), I can only say this: Cars is peerless when it comes to visuals. Breathtaking scenery, believable reflections in the cars' shiny paint jobs and a couple of scenes that border on photorealism. The cinematography is some of Pixar's best work, especially the scene when the character Doc Hudson goes for a drive.

All of this is taken directly from the digital source at Pixar and presented in excellent quality on the DVD. For the film alone, Cars is worth getting.

N.B. Make sure you watch through to the end of the credits.

The DVD itself - 3.5 out of 5

After the DVDs for Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, which were loaded with extra features, the fact we only have a one-disc version of Cars is disappointing. The Cars DVD looks practically threadbare when put alongside earlier Pixar films. However, what is there is highly entertaining:

Mater and the Ghostlight - A brand new animated short, set after the film.
One Man Band - Shown before Cars in the Cinema, this Academy Award-nominated short shows the measures two musicians will resort to to earn a little girl's money.
4 Deleted Scenes - These are entertaining, but ultimately it's a good thing they weren't in the film. Two of them are rather creepy, actually.
Epilogue - During the credits, several scenes of life in Radiator Spirngs were shown. On the DVD, they are now presented in Fullscreen for your viewing pleasure.
Inspiration for Cars - Cars Director John Lasseter talks about what inspired him to make a film about cars.
And a hidden easter egg.

Perhaps the most disappointing part of the DVD for me is that there is no commentary.

Conclusion

If you only want the film, then this DVD is fine. If you're the kind of person who enjoys extra behind the scenes stuff, then you may end up disappointed. I still recommend adding it to any family's DVD library.

Hours of fun for all our family
Review created: 08/09/09

This is a Disney product where cars act as humans. Voices and animation are just wonderful. We use captions from the movie at home now and always laugh about it. Story is quite educative but still entertaining and there is not much violence and not strong language at all.
Sceneries are also pretty, als well as music.

I wish there was similar film coming out soon.

Review created: 10/08/09

This DVD was a present for my 3 year old little boy, who is Cars mad! Terrible Mother that I am I inadvertently wiped it from the SKY box, so immediate measures were taken and the DVD was bought as soon as possible on ebay. This is a brilliant family film and it is a real "feel good" film, and fundamentally a story about friendship and loyalty. The thing that makes this film come alive is the unbelievable attention to detail, when you see it and I really recommend that you buy this film as it is great for all ages, you will see what I mean. The background, the landscape, soundtrack and above all the likeabily of the characters make this film in my opinion one of the greatest ever made.

We had a Cars DVD but it got all scratched and jumped when the kids were watching it. I was loathed to buy one new as they cost so much money, so looked on ebay and found a 2nd hand one to bid on. It was just so easy to buy, especially when you have a paypal account. I won the item, and it was posted out really quickly so I didn't have to wait long to get it. Now everyone is really pleased that we have a working DVD to play which doesn't skip around. It didn't even look 2nd hand as it was in great condition, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again!

Review created: 17/07/09

Cars is a brilliant film and is also fun for all the family. An awesome disney/pixar tale. It all revolves around Lightning McQueen, a famous race driver and shows how he goes from a spoilt race car to someone who values friendship more than his career. Fun for all from children to adults.
