The scenery and sunshine of this film is wonderful and makes you want to go to Greece and its islands almost immediately. A good film with good performances all round. Ideally this would be a Saturday afternoon/evening film to watch with a box of chocs and a nice partner all snuggled on the sofa...
The film misses out great chunks of the book, twists the story and completely misses out the end and the whole point of the ending. Its such a shame that they misses the true meaning of this story. The only saving grace is the beautiful scenery in this film
Good film easy watching but Nicholas Cages Italian accent very poor.Best actor was John Hurt. It's a film the ladies will love.Look out for the scenery magnificent.
a great film and a wonderful back drop with stunning views love this film cause its filmed on a island in greece, kafalonia where i go twice a year and brings back wonderful memorys
Nicholas Cage has been frequently criticised for his "unconvincing interpretation" and "ridiculous" accent in the role of Captain Corelli. Having read the book first, my imagined version of Corelli, was of a much shorter, rounder and jollier character. That said, I believe that Cage played the part sympathetically and I enjoyed his particular approach to the character. John Hurt as the Doctor was magnificent and Penelope Cruz as Pelagia... delightful! Being fond of guitar music, "Pelagia's Theme", although on the mandolin is enchanting. The whole film manages a successful balance of drama, action, romance and intrigue set against the beautiful backdrop of Cephalonia. I found it immensely enjoyable and the decision to change the ending for the film sensible. It was much more believable and satisfactory than the climax in Louis de Berniere's original, which given the historical relationship between Antonio Corelli and Pelagia and their respective personalities, seemed slightly absurd if happy.
Bought this film because I had read the book and wanted to see how it compared. I was quite disappointed in that they missed a lot out and indeed managed to change the storyline. The film itself was good watching and I would recommend it but would recommend reading the book more.
I bought it for my husband who has read the book twice - most recently while we were holidaying in Cephalonia earlier this year. I had tried all the usual outlets to obtain a copy and failed so imagine the thrill when I found it! The hardest part was keeping it secret!
A completely faultless film, beautifully filmed on one of the loveliest Greek islands in existence. If you aren't already a lover of the Greek way of life, this will encourage you to try it !
After booking a holiday to Kefalonia I went on Holidays Uncovered to read up on the resort I had booked. Everyone kept mentioning this DVD - saying they fell in love with the place after watching it. So I wanted to see the DVD for my self - did a search on E.Bay - found it - purchased it - and within the week had watched it - (twice !! ) it was a lovely film - now passed it on to my next door neighbour who is also going on holiday to Kefalonia ! Cant wait for my hols now - just wish there was a Nicholas Cage waiting for me on the beach as in this lovely film.
Top notch film. Great story. Has love, war, culture, humour and lots more. Gripping from start to finish. Highly recommended as a must see for all tastes.
I had read the book and enjoyed it immensely and wanted to see the film as I had been told it was an excellent transcription with lovely scenery I was delighted to be able to buy it on ebay for a very good price.
It had every thing in it, it was very good. I heared so much about it from families, so I could not wait to see it myself, now i can see why they liked it so much.
