Captain Corelli's Mandolin

Nicholas Cage has been frequently criticised for his "unconvincing interpretation" and "ridiculous" accent in the role of Captain Corelli. Having read the book first, my imagined version of Corelli, was of a much shorter, rounder and jollier character. That said, I believe that Cage played the part sympathetically and I enjoyed his particular approach to the character. John Hurt as the Doctor was magnificent and Penelope Cruz as Pelagia... delightful!
Being fond of guitar music, "Pelagia's Theme", although on the mandolin is enchanting.
The whole film manages a successful balance of drama, action, romance and intrigue set against the beautiful backdrop of Cephalonia. I found it immensely enjoyable and the decision to change the ending for the film sensible. It was much more believable and satisfactory than the climax in Louis de Berniere's original, which given the historical relationship between Antonio Corelli and Pelagia and their respective personalities, seemed slightly absurd if happy.
