Disc One consists of demos from the original lineup of the Magic Band, featuring Ry Cooder, which were recorded in 1966 and 1967. Some of these songs ended up on the first Beefheart album, SAFE AS MILK. Disc Two is live tracks from 1968. Disc Three, the holy grail for most Beefheart collectors, is outtakes and alternate takes from the TROUT MASK REPLICA sessions. Disc Four only has a few more TROUT MASK outtakes, but it's an enhanced CD with fascinating live footage from four 1968-1973 shows. The last disc mostly features '70s live material and demos from the late '70s/early '80s period of Beefheart's last musical efforts. The sound is variable, but if you're a Captain Beefheart fan, GROW FINS is simply essential.
