The PowerShot G10 is the 8th generation of Canon's lovely G-series PowerShot cameras, and is a great choice for any user wanting superior control in a point and shoot that stands out as much for its styling as for its images. The G10 has dials which change the exposure mode, exposure compensation, and ISO setting, as well as a Canon 'quick control' dial on the rear which mimics the familial control of the EOS SLR cameras. These traits are certainly unusual in the point and shoot world. And at less than 2" thick (46mm) and weighing about 12 ounces (350g), it is a camera to take on a long journey without fanfare.This is a camera that supports and nurtures creativity, with a full range of shooting and recording modes and compatibility with exciting accessories including Speedlite flashes.

When looking to buy a compact camera, there were a few things I demanded. The first was the capability to mount a flashgun on a hot-shoe, simply because I have found that the ranges of most onboard compact camera flashes are lacking to say the least. Another thing I really demanded from a camera, as many professional photographers would agree is crucial, is the ability to shoot and then edit in raw format. The simplicity that comes along with RAW files when using Photoshop is beyond doubt one of photography's saving graces from quickly encroaching madness. Last in my reasons for choosing the Canon G10 was the fact that it has a viewfinder. This may seem trivial to most, but you go out on a bright summers day, see a beautiful vista (I would never set out with a digital to do a landscape shot because it's just not the right format) and then not be able to see the screen because of the sun and you too will wish you had gone for a compact with a viewfinder.
I've had this camera for a good month now and its sheer convenience, coupled with its amazing performance that is limited only by the users imagination, has quickly made it an all day, every day companion.
I wont go into all the technical specs because those are widely available everywhere. I will say that with almost 15 megapixels, you will not be lacking or wanting for detail in your images. I have already printed to A3 size and even cropped a little from a quickly taken documentary style shot. The details were still crisp and sharp!
In a nutshell, if you want a camera that will travel well with you, a camera that can perform along with the bigger boys, in bright conditions and darker ones too, if you want to save time and sanity in post-shoot production with the benefit of RAW files, you NEED the Canon Powershot G10.

Unfortunately I never received my camera despite paying using a postal order for £327.25!
I would like to review the camera, but since I have been scammed / robbed, I can only say it looked great in the advert.
Pity that eBay could not help with a refund.

I bought the G10 as a upgrade from the G9 model i bought of Ebay a year ago now,up to now it perfomed very good with a brighter screen than the G9 and a higher pixle count (14.7MP) the contols are like all canon's easy to use,but if you are jumping up from a std point and shoot camera its worth noteing the G10 has quite a few features that you may not need ? now or in the future ? its a "Top End" digital compact camera that delivers very good pics and thats what i like about it,it also uses the "SD" type card (which you have to buy) as canon dont supply one,thats not a problem as a good "San Disk" Extreme III SDHC card is what i use and woth every penny,with a camera like the G10 you want a 8GB or 16GB card because of the potential of this camera and i would recommend the above "Sandisk" type "SDHC" type after all you want good pics ? dont you

What a brilliant camera, I normally use an EOS 5D, and want a better compact to carry easily for the kids and for holidays. This is it, light enough, brilliant screen and lens, 14.7Meg CCD. Very easy to use if you know SLRs, with cracking results. The manual settings allow you to avoid the blown highlights etc that you may get if using a point and shoot compact. Go buy one! J

Anyone who knows about cameras and particularly Canon will like this camera from the word go. It shouts quality and is copact enough to put in a jacket pocket. It takes superb pictures right through the I.S.O. range and the macro facility is brilliant also the grid lines on one of the display options is a great help for horizon alignment. There are so many good things about this camera that I suggest you go and buy one. If you are already a Canon user you will take to it immediately. The range from 28- 140 mm should satisfy most shooting occasions. The reason I bought mine is because I never go out of the door without a camera and I found my Pro one a bit too bulky and of course another great plus is the image stabilizer facility, need I say more?.

I was aiming to move up from my 3 year old compact having had a film SLR 20 years ago. I had looked at hybrid cameras because they seemed to give me the photographic controls I was looking for. However once i found the reviews of this camera it seemed perfect for my needs because it was not too bulky, had a sensible length of zoom, a satisfactory wide angle and physical controls that were not buried away in onscreen menus/multifunction buttons.
I had been considering the Panasonic LX3 because of its great reviews but was concerned about the limitations of the short zoom (60 mm) plus i was keen on having a viewfinder.
I have had the camera for two weeks and the G10 has lived up to what i was expecting. Its easy to use straight out of the box and the LCD display is fantastic for framing shots and reviewing them. I have probably used the viewfinder less than i was expecting because of the quality and size of the LCD screen.
Its controls have started to make me really think about photography again rather than just pointing and shooting. I especially like to control depth of field and exposure and because the controls fall easily to hand you do want to play with your shots. My family cannot understand why i have so many shots of the same thing but each one has a different setting!
Any negatives? - none really. I would have preferred the aperture controls to be on the external camera control on the top rather than the ISO settings that are there.
I haven't shot in RAW yet but it is a great plus knowing that its available once i have really got to grips with the camera.
There is still a lot for me to discover with this camera and its controls as i go forward and that makes me feel that this camera was a good purchase.

This is the highest resolving digital camera I have ever used. I accept the limitations and use a dedicated canon 270ex speedlite when there is limited available light, (bouncing of the ceiling). Therefor, i can always use this camera at the lowest ISO settings avoiding the problem of high ISO noise.
It is well constructed, and easy to use, and used in this way provides first class results. Having used Leica M6s and MPs and several other SLRs/DSLRs I have to admit I am very fussy. However, I must admit to being quite delighted with this combination.

I like: price, compactness, high resolution, the ability to shoot silently, hidden camera. Do not like: optical rangefinder is not working correctly, especially in the telephoto regime. matrix noises level is very high.

G10 Review and comparison with Digital SLRI love the size (fits in your pocket),quality of output and RAW shooting option,my flash from my EOS system is compatible.
I hate slow shooting in RAW,camera needs loads of power and you need a backup battery I suspect that it is easy to turn on power by accident and even though it switches back to standby I suspect that battery is drained in this way.

Excellent camera, quite large compaired with compact but small enough to carry around in a wee bag. The photo quality is great (expect for noise at high ISO - but still one cannot expect the same picture quality as an SLR with a smaller sensor etc). I have also invested in the canon waterproof housing which has been great too.

Great camera, great features and excellent results.It's light, compact with features at finger tip easy access; requires no lengthy preparation for such excellent result; not intimidating for the camera shy. I have other cameras, but when I'm in a rush to go places, this is the one to take along. The range of the lens - from wide to moderate telephoto is just adequate. It's highly recommendable for both amateur and professional.

canon g10this was a replacement camera for one I'd had stolen, I only managed to get 2/3rds of the price from insurance,I tried bidding for one with no success,so went for a buy now option the price was good £80 less than on line stores.it arrived in a couple of days with some usefull giveaways. I am very pleased with the camera,its less bulky than a digital SLR, with a lot of the functons even raw.i take it traveling with me and it excells, I must take more care of it this time.

Canon G10I instantly liked the metal body of this small camera. The viewing screen is good and I like the viewfinder very much. There are many 'modes' (I personally do not like too many options but in this camera's case they seem very useful. Clarity of print at A4 is truly excellent from my Canon Pixma IP5000. I am very pleased with the Dynamic Range of this camera. Tonal gradation is subtle and not unlike that of colour print film(...which is supposed to be a complement, not a criticism). I bought this camera after reading many comparative reviews and deciding that it would serve my needs better than the Panasonic LX3 by being a competent all-rounder. I am not disappointed. Oh yes... and RAW mode is very good.
