Canon EOS 400D Digital Camera

as an amateur photographer who is capable but not a proffessional, I found this camera to be excellent..It is simple to understand and has beautiful sharp images, whether on auto focus or manual.

Its many features make it really easy to take portraits or landscapes to proffessional standards..many of the phots I have taken would be worthy of a magazine! Pet portraits too are really easy with the multi shoot function, you never miss the many faces they pull in a few seconds.

Accessories are not expensive either, and compared to the new 450D, the only difference is that you have a live view LCD screen on the 450 that you do not have on the 400, but you wouldn't look at an LCD scren to take a proffessional photo anyway, so pound for pound this camera makes, in my opinion the better buy!

As a starter SLR it is very good. It is very versotile and it feels profesional
The only downside is that even though it has a rear screen, it cannot be used as through lense picture setup. I acctualy wanted a 450D but could not afford one with the extra lense and so I bought the 400 with lots of extras.

I bought a Canon 350D dslr with a 18-200mm Sigma lens via ebay and have had it for two years taking loads of excellent photos. The camera was easy to use and I would not have replaced it except that I mistakenly put the wrong battery in and damaged the circuit which cost £150 to have repaired by an authorised Canon Repair Centre. Whilst waiting a month for the camera to come back I checked on ebay and saw that Canon 400D were being offered as people wished to buy the latest spec of 450D or 500D. I bought a 400D second hand via ebay and as it is almost identical to my 350D I feel comfortable using it. I have since bought a Canon 28-200mm lens to go with it and am giving my repaired 350D and it's lens to my daughter.
The Canon 350D and 400D are nice weight cameras to carry around, easy to use and get to grips with and take excellent amateur photos without having to go too deep into photography.
Whilst it is nice to have the latest toys, for value for money about how much you are going to use a camera for amateur photography, I would recommend a second hand 12 month/ two year old camera as a cheaper option maybe giving better value.
Why Canon and not Nikon? I looked online and in magazines at numerous reviews and as each new model comes out, that brand might edge the other for a few months before another model comes out. But the thing about Canon is that all the Canon lens fit each model.

After my Panasonic DMC-FX100 decided not to work any more I was looking for a new camera to get myself from the compact camera market to a DSLR. Having had this new to me camera for 2 weeks and taking in excess of over 700 photos, The EOS 400d is in my honest view this is the best value DSLR camera that you can get for your hard earned pennys.

I decided to purchase a digital SLR after many years of owning just a Compact digital camera. I have previously owned a film SLR, also Canon so decided to stick with the same make as at least I'd know what the buttons mean!

I started my search for a 350D then happened to notice the 400D wasn't much more money so I purchase one for £250 which included a 18-55mm lens, camera bag and extra CF card.

I am very pleased with my purchase. The camera has many many features and I'm sure that I only know what half of them do. I am planning to take a photography course to hopefully learn more about my cameras capabilities.

The 400D is very easy to use as it has fully automatic modes for portrait, lenascape, close up etc. I personally prefer the use the manual settings so that I can choose shutter speed and aperture myself. It has a large LCD screen which shows your settings, ISO, shots remaining etc. and is also used for viewing your pictures.

The quality of the photos are much clearer than my compact camera and I only use the basic setting to keep the file sizes as small as possible (1mb).

The camera comes with a very useful guide which explains all the functions in detail.

It is very easy to use and I would recommend this camera to anyone wanting a digital SLR.

I decided to take up anew hobby and found the camera suggested to me by a collegue, the camera I bought was advertised as in excellent condition with bag tri-pod ready to go and also a great SLR camera for beginners to photography to start with. I am very pleased with my pruchase.

I wanted to purchase a replacement camera for my Canon EOS 35mm. Going into retirement this year I just wanted a simple to use digital SLR. I have EF lenses which I will be able to use with this camera. I like the fact that it has a larger rear screen to view my taken pictures than my canon Ixus 400, but would have prefered the next upgrade to a 450D with it's 3" viewing screen, but that would have put the price up by another £100 or so. The camera is not as well built and solid as the old 35mm, all plastic, lens and body so will not stand up to hard use. But in todays market when everything is made to a selling price I suppose we should expect this.
