Canon EOS 1000D Digital Camera with 18-55mm IS lens

Most likely, if you re looking at this model, your current camera is a compact one. Why get a 1000d? It takes better pictures, faster, and it s all tweakable.
Better pictures: better colours, contrast... And a very good behaviour in low light. My Lumix FX7 was rubbish in low light, while canon is famous for this.
Faster: it turns out instantly. Litteraly. Turning the lens to zoom in or out is super fast. Autofocus is fast too. You can miss a shot, but you gotta suck.
Tweakable: crucial reason. A compact is just limited. If you want to take REALLY nice pictures, you need one of those. shooting portraits with blur behind, night shots with long exposure and cool results, sequence shooting, are pretty neat.

I own one, i simply love it. Plus it s the smallest one in the market. And it fits in hand just nice considering it is smaller than the competition. and i have big hands.

This camera is ideal for anyone taking their first step into digital SLR photography. I've owned numerous Canon compacts over the last few years and have always been pleased with the results but wanted the flexibility and better image quality of an SLR camera. I spent months researching cameras on the internet to fit in with my restricted budget and eventualy took the plunge and bought the EOS 1000D.

I bought it for a number of reasons. Foremost it is aimed at the amatuer and is very easy to use. I haven't read the manual but can work all functions due to my experience with Canon compacts and the easy to use menu systems.

Secondly I wanted a camera that came with a decent kit lens that included image stabalisation. You will love the quality from the included 3 x IS lens. I've taken some stunning portraits with it. Probably the best kit lens from any manufacturer out there in the amatuer market.

Bottom line is a camera that does what it says on the tin! 10 MP resolution, low noise, high ISO, fast 3 frames per second shooting, easy auto settings, full manual control and live view if you really need it. Perfect for the beginner to digital SLR and it won't cost you a fortune. This camera won best digital SLR award 2008. Check the review sites. "Steves digicams " is my favourite site.

Where do you start with this camera. Well if you are new to Photography, Click it to "Auto" and you will get the photo's you wanted. If you are looking for more advanced setting, to get more creative with your shots, the low f4.5 aperture will get you nice blurred backgrounds for the nice portrait making your main focus pop off the page. Personally I do not like the sports mode, either I still haven't got used to tracking the main focus -say a car- or I'm incredibly shaky. I would probs say the best bet is that it's both of them... any ways I'm rambling on.

I recommend this camera for first time buyers to semi professionals. Menu layout is perfect. Settings and easy to get to and change. Best camera I've purchased so far. You will not go wrong with it.

This camera is almost perfect with enough expert options for the amateur and professional alike as well as easy to use for snap taking. I bought this on a recommendation. The results are just fantastic even at medium resolution of 5.3 mega pixels. I bought an 8mb SD card but the largest it will take is 2mb altough this still holds 1000s of photos. There is no video mode but it's a camera no a camcorder!!

this is a true beginner's SLR camera. its is fairly small compared to the bigger more expert models. its pretty easy to use from the very start. there are pre set modes for quick shooting then when you get confident with your camera you can start experimenting with the other modes which can result in some absolutely lovely photos. everybody who has used my camera were all surprised at how small it was to what they all thought it would be.

In general this camera deal is OK, the Canon body and lense are a good standard and the extras are as described so a decent bundle. The only issue I would note is the 2 extra lenses seem to lack performance of the Canon lense, they function but results are mediocre.

Superb camera with excellent resolution, pin-sharp focus and great flash.

I considered buying the 12Mp XSi but there is no real need for any higher resolution unless you plan to produce very large prints. I initially set the camera to full resolution but quickly realised that I could produce perfect 10x7 inch prints at medium res, so that is now my default setting - if I want much bigger prints I can still switch to hi-res again. As an example of the quality I took a medium res photo of my daughters cat sitting upright with plenty of space between the subject and the edge of the frame. On a 22" monitor I was able to zoom in to just the eyes before I started to see any real pixilation!!

There are so many modes to explore but the full auto mode has been used for many varied shots with very fine results throughout. Other auto modes produce equally excellent results and the manual modes allow for much greater creativity and control.

All photos have been taken using the standard 18-55mm lens and, as described above, the results have been excellent.

I would highly recommend this camera.

Like the quality of pictures how much sharper they are in detail compared to a non slr. Different lens fit canon along with pentax and nikon brands. Bargain!!!

I like the clarity and focussing ability of this camera, but I use it in conjunction with my Panasonic Lumix. The Canon takes the best pictures and is the better camera. I need a viewfinder. Looking at a small screen is not enough, especially when the sun is shining over my shoulder into the screen. I will find the Canon rather too bulky for every occasion, and when I go abroad by plane I shall take the Lumix, which goes in my pocket. I think I have the best of both worlds now. It's all about horses for courses.

I decided to buy it because I have a need for it. I edit and publish a 10 page full colour newsletter every month for a bowls club, and I need a good camers to take the annual "club members" photo on President's day, apart from the 1001 uses throughout the year.

absolutly love this camera its my first dslr an i find it easy to use and produces astounding pictures, couldnt be happier :)

The camera produces excellent quality pictures even with the 18-55mm kit lens. It is an excellent introduction for those who are used to a point and click camera and want more control provided by a DSLR. I made that step and the results I am getting are awesome.

Overall I think this is a pretty good deal. The camera seems to be very good quality with an excellent array of features and customisable settings. It received excellent reviews from various other websites i visited before buying. It is listed as a best buy by Which?
The accessories supplyed in the deal are fairly low quality and cheap, but as this is my first move from camera phones / standard modern digi cameras to a proper DSLR, its a good starting point for me and I'm ready to go straight out of the box. Ive already taken some interesting shots with the camera kit.
Overall its a good deal, but if you already know about photography, you probably wont be completely happy with the quality of the accessories.

Got if for week now and no regrets. Great pictures and easy to use. What I like the most is that it gives you full auto modes(landscape, night, no flash..) and Full manual. When I need fast shot - auto, when I have time to campture essence of the flower - full manual.

I've taken pictures in semi dark room in "no flash" mode and must say IS(Image Stabilizer) does it's job very well. Picures came sharp.
18-55mm lens is great. In AP mode gives you very small focus field, so everything behind looks blured. But it also great at panoramic pictures when capturing every detail is important.

Long story shot:

Great entry level DSLR. IMHO even for advanced person it will be at great use.
Novice will feel comfortable too. Great manual included with tips how to get best of every mode in differentsituations.

Canon quality, well build, great lens, stunning picture quality.
Yes it feels plasticy(no rubber) compar to £5000 camera, but grip is great.

Camera is lightweight. Liveview with 3/4 grid is a life saver.


Overal: Great cammera. REcomend to anyone who is thinking of moving to DSLR.
Good price for outstanding quality.
