I have a non IS version of this lens and was quite happy with the results, and if careful it will give good results on general pictures. I was a little disappointed with landscapes and tend to use my nifty 50 (50mm F1.8).
I have just got the IS version and although I have not done any landscapes yet the other pictures I have taken are very sharp and have no shake at all.
I did a little test and took a picture of a clock at max zoom both with IS and the IS turned off without flash and the difference is very marked. I held my camera as steady as I could with the IS off and took the picture f5.6 at 1/6 sec the result was not my best. Then I took the same picture with the IS on and what a difference really quite sharp and took no effort at holding the shot.
All in all for the price this is a lens worth getting the IS makes all the difference. I was a little reluctant to get the IS considering it to be for woose,s who can,t hold a camera steady but I am sold on them now well worth the money.
