Faithful to book
The film itself is quite mellow and may not be as appreciated therefore, if you haven't read the original version of the book. It is part narrated with real extracts from the book and contains much of the original story. It opens with real life photos from wild Alaska and the people venturing there so sets the scene nicely to go into the story. Buck is played by 3 different dogs, though wouldn't know this and he is just how you imagined him to be. As the film tries to stay true to the book it covers a lot of ground quickly so there is some glossing and not enough emphasis on Buck as the hero to John and his eventual 'call to the wild' and degeneration into this life so to speak. Overall, watchable film if you haven't read the book and a better view if you have read the book. Note - there is a 70s version with Charlton Heston starring also that can be checked out.
