  Faithful to book
Review created: 08/05/09

The film itself is quite mellow and may not be as appreciated therefore, if you haven't read the original version of the book. It is part narrated with real extracts from the book and contains much of the original story. It opens with real life photos from wild Alaska and the people venturing there so sets the scene nicely to go into the story. Buck is played by 3 different dogs, though wouldn't know this and he is just how you imagined him to be. As the film tries to stay true to the book it covers a lot of ground quickly so there is some glossing and not enough emphasis on Buck as the hero to John and his eventual 'call to the wild' and degeneration into this life so to speak. Overall, watchable film if you haven't read the book and a better view if you have read the book. Note - there is a 70s version with Charlton Heston starring also that can be checked out.

  call of the wild

Not a patch on the origanal with charlton heston... that was truly a classic. The acting was second rate and the voice over was annoying, it follows the book quite closely but with the acting and voice over its not entertaining and my advice is to give it a miss and watch the original.

  A leonberger lovers film
Review created: 25/01/08

This version is great if you own or just love the leonberger dog, this wonderful gentle giant of the dog world plays the part of Buck. A touching story of the loyalty and trust dogs show to man and also how cruel some humans can be to animals, thankfully good always wins. The copies I recently purchased were for other Leonberger dog owners.

  the call of the wild
Review created: 04/03/07

this was a film that i had not seen in a while, after watching i remember thinking that there were two versions of the film this one staring RUTGER HAUER being the milder version, however the film made very good viewing for all the family,as daft as it may sound the end of the film left you thinking poor dog and yet shows how animals can adapt,a survival film you would want to watch again. Nice to see a bit of the past brought into the future.
